Beut O : Will it work with my 65ED?
Shopper : Has anyone tried this product with glasses? I am worried that there is insufficient eye relief to use it comfortably while wearing prescription glasses...RICHARD W : I also wear glasses and I have had no issues using this eyepiece with a Pentax 80mm scope body with a straight eyepiece mount. Hope that helps.W S : I wear progressive high-refractive lenses and don't have a problem. Like this scope... there are better but at 4X the price. Can use for .22 caliber at 200 yards.KYLE N : I have glasses, and haven't had any problems with this scope. I do have to have my glasses lense almost touching the eyepiece.MURRAY H : I routinely use this eyepiece while wearing somewhat bulky and oversize wrap around shooting glasses. While the eye relief is not the best out there among high end spotting scopes, I have found it to be acceptable, especially given the overall quality of the optic for the price paid.MITCHELL F : I have this exact eyepiece. Even though I wear glasses during the day, I do NOT use glasses when viewing through the telescope. Focusing adjusts quite fine. However, I just looked with and without my reading glasses. There was enough eye relief both ways. If I had to buy this scope and eyepiece again, I would NOT order this zoom eyepiece. It works fine at about 20-30X but above that, the image degrades horribly and is all but unusable (dull, low contrast, not fine detail. I highly suggest you get a 20 or 30X fixed lens. I love the scope, but not the zoom feature.JOHN D : I use it this eyepiece with shooting glasses and have not had any issues.DICK K : Works fine with my trifocals. I was concerned also.GREG S : I can't really say, I normally take my glasses off when looking through the eye piece. The reason is that I don't have to rely on my glasses that much, but more importantly (and I learned this from surveying) is that if you take your glasses off and then focus the eye piece, only the eye piece is in focus. This makes it easy to ignore the other eye's input to the brain, and you don't have to squint one eye closed so as to ignore it's input. This saves eye strain and makes viewing easier. If you have good eyes just use your dominate eye (there is a very simple way to figure that out) and you can train yourself to ignore the non-dominate eye. But people that use glasses benefit by having their non-dominate eye out of focus. Hope that helps but if not maybe someone has the exact answer to your question.
Shopper : "when used with the 100mm Spotting Scope" is noted in the description. I'm looking for one to use with the PF80EDA. Will this work or is there another one that I need to be looking at? Thanks, JamesDONALD K : This is probably THE best 20x-60x eyepiece made. I have the PF80EDA and the combo is great. Even the Swaro or Kowa et al are not better at twice the cost.LAURENCE D : Yes, this eyepiece works fine with the Pentax PF80 spotting scope. It gives 20x to 60x magnification with the PF80. My reading of the "26x - 78x" note is that the eyepiece is also compatible with the 100mm scope, but gives higher magnification because that scope has a longer focal length than the PF80. I have used a number of different eyepieces with my PF80 and had no compatibility issues with any of them.GREGORY D : I use the Pentax SMC Zoom Eyepiece 20x-60x with the 80mm PF80EDA scope and the combination works just fine.PAUL T : I use this eye piece on my PF80EDA and it works great. Paul TranterEDWARD K : You can use it on the PF80EDA. That is the scope/eypiece combination I use. No problems. I also bought the Pentax camera adapter and a K mount to Canon lens adpater to use with my Canon DSLR. Excellent Eyepiece

Wonderful waterproof eyepiece that offers an excellent combination of eye relief, field of view and correction. Pair it with a scope housing a large, quality objective lens and you will obtain a clear, bright and detailed view throughout this zoom optical's power range. Partners well with the Pentax PF-80ED-A spotting scope and compliments any Pentax fixed XW eyepiece collection. Outstanding value considering the cost.

Works well

Needed to see 22 cal. holes in targets at 200 yds, haven't used it much but appears to work well. Gerat for wildlife, could easily track flying geese 200-300 yds.

I was struck by how large and heavy this eyepiece is compared to those on other spotting scopes that I have used. Once I used it, I realized that the size and quality allow it to do an excellent job of giving you all the image quality that the scope it is attached to can deliver.

Big but great Zoom lens!!

I use this with a Tele Vue 85 (also bought from Adorama) and Stellarvue 105 Apo- I'm happy with it's compatibility with both. My wife and I are part-time birders with the 85 and I also love astronomy. Sure this zoom is big, but not any bigger or heavier than the new Ethos eyepieces of Tele Vue. The eye relief is excellent & you won't be squinting to see objects. I agree with the other review, you'll come away with a different point of view (no pun intended) with the Pentax zoom. It's expensive but you'll be glad you invested in it.

Pentax SMC Zoom eyepiece

Used with astronomical telescopes...APO refractors 85mm and 152mm. Spectacular performer...I have full set of regular Pentax EPs and this one get second most use (20mm tops). This even outperforms my special purpose Coronado Ha solar eyepieces in a very dramatic way. Negatives...tall and heavy. Also zoom action is a bit stiff but not a big price to pay considering its performance. If you have tried other zooms...be prepared to have all your preconceptions about zoom performance trashed!
