It has an excellent tray life. I was interrupted in one darkroom session, so I covered the tray with a larger tray and came back about 24 hours later, and ot worked fine. It is one of the developers that rivals the old Kodak "Dektol" for overall performance.

I don't think I'll bother trying any other paper developer. This stuff works great! And it seems to last forever! I'm still using the same batch I diluted three weeks ago and it hasn't changed color yet. I'll keep using it until it quits working and then mix up some more.

I bought this as a convenient substitute for Dektol.

Discover the versatility and precision of Dr. Beer's Variable Contrast Paper Developer, an innovative two-stock solution specifically designed for developing black and white paper. This professional-grade product is brought to you by Photographers' Formulary, a brand renowned for its high-quality photography solutions.
The unique feature of Dr. Beer's Paper Developer lies in its dual-component system. Stock solution A is enriched with metol, a soft developer known for its gentle action, while solution B is infused with hydroquinone, a contrast developer that enhances the sharpness of your images.
What sets Dr. Beer's Paper Developer apart is its ability to control the contrast of the print by simply adjusting the relative amounts of the two stock solutions. This means you're not just working with a single developer, but a customizable combination that can yield results ranging from soft to high-contrast.
For a specific grade of paper, the contrast can be adjusted by approximately 1.5 paper grades, offering you a wide range of creative possibilities. Expect prints with rich blacks, neutral tones, and fine separation for a truly professional finish.
The stock solutions are typically diluted 1:1 to create the working solution. This 1-liter kit provides enough chemicals to produce between 2 to 3 liters of working solution, depending on your preferred dilution.
While the stock solution has a shelf life of 3 to 4 months, it's recommended to discard the working solution at the end of each session to ensure optimal results.
Experience the effectiveness and efficiency of Dr. Beer's Variable Contrast Paper Developer, the reliable choice for your black and white photography projects.
