Because Casein is a unique colloid derived from milk, it offers a distinctive approach to photographic printing. This Casein Printing Kit is designed for those who are already familiar with gum printing, as the process for casein printing mirrors it closely. The kit includes a colloid that is mixed with a light-sensitive dichromate and watercolor. This mixture is then brushed onto paper and exposed under a negative to UV light.

The magic of casein printing lies in the reaction to the UV light. Where the light hits the most, the casein hardens, creating a solid image. Conversely, where the light hits the least, the casein and pigment wash away in a simple water bath, allowing an image to emerge.

This process of exposure and development is repeated multiple times for each print. For a tri-color print, for example, a red, yellow, and blue exposure is required to complete it.
