Questions & Answers

Shopper : is this hydrochinon fot develop photopaper ?PHILLIP M : Hydroquinone is used in both film and paper solutions. You might find an old copy of Kodak's publication J-1, Chemicals and Formulas (for black and white) for recipes and much useful info.MARCUS K : Hydroquinone can be used as a developing agent for film or paper. This is a bulk chemical an must be weighed and mixed with other dry chemicals using a formula to make a suitable developer. If you're not into mixing your own developer from scratch I'd suggest buying Kodak dektol for developing photo paper.TERRY C : Yes, hydroquinone is a common ingredient in both film and paper developers.IOURI D : yes, one element of the photo paper developing formula , C6H4(OH)2ANDREW R : Hydroquinone is developing agent used in silver film and print processes. Hydroquinone is usually used in combination with Metol.
EVANDER J : Is this the same as Hydroquinone used for the face? Although its not reccomended for externl use, could i theoretically make my own lightneing lotion with buying this ingredient?KEVIN W : I believe it is the same compound, but not sure about the grade. Probably safest just to purchase a properly made lightening lotion to avoid any toxicity.Ben S : It is the same chemical but I would not recommend mixing your own. I know nothing about skin lightening creams but I am assuming they have a very low hydroquinone content as well as other complimentary ingredients to prevent irritation. Using a higher concentration or having "hot spots" in the cream where there is undisolved hydroq could result in contact dermatitis or possibly worse.
Jose A : Is the same product used as polymerization inhibitor? CAS 123-31-9ROBERT W : Jose A, Hydroquinone is primarily used as a developing agent in photography when producing B&W prints. It is known for enhancing contrast in the image. following is a quote from Ansel Adams book The Print, page 46: INGREDIENTS OF PRINT DEVELOPERS. 2. Hydroquinone. This is one of the first developing agents known. Hydroquinone has the property of enhancing contrast in the image by building up heavier deposits in the shadow areas of the print than could be obtained - in the same development time and from the same exposure - by the use of Metol alone. Hydroquinone and Metol in combination comprise the most popular and most universally used formulas. The formulas give thoroughly consistent results and have the advantages of long life and economy. Not clear how this would work in a chemical polymerization situation. Suggest you contact a chemical analyst.ANDREW R : This particular material is photo-grade and is sold specifically for photographic use. While this compound may have other non-photographic use, it is not packaged for that use nor is it indicated that this would be suitable for such off label use.

Having quality Chemicals is what it is all about when you decide you are going to control the whole process from beginning to end

Since I live in a very remote area in New Mexico, I keep an extensive supply of chemicals for mixing developers. If you live in an urban area where there is a Photo lab that does custom processing you would not need to MYO unless you want to see the results of your shoot the same day. When you leave home in the morning you never know how the day is going to pan out, what the sun is going to do, what the conditions will be when you snap the shutter, what mistakes you may make. Many times I have developed a roll of film just to save one shot that I screwed up because I made a mistake. Having quality Chemicals is what it is all about when you decide you are going to control the whole process from beginning to end.

Purchased this for my ID-11 developer formula. Very high quality, my developer works perfectly!

Before diving into the world of black and white film developing, consider the Hydroquinone from Photographers' Formulary. This high-quality, professional-grade product is specifically designed to enhance your film developing process. Often paired with metol (MQ) or Pheinidone (PQ), Hydroquinone is a popular choice among professional developers due to its rapid action when combined with caustic alkalies like sodium hydroxide. This results in the highest possible contrast, making it an essential tool for technical applications, particularly in process work where achieving maximum contrast is crucial. Moreover, when Hydroquinone is mixed with alkali carbonates, it transforms into a slow-working but highly contrasty developer. This reliable and durable product is a must-have for photographers specializing in black and white film development. With its effective formulation and reputation for quality, Hydroquinone is a trusted choice for photographers aiming to elevate their work.
