My order arrived well-packed and intact. This is the first time I've tried cyanotype prints. I mixed according to the directions and got beautiful blue images using the sun. I'm excited to do some more.

The liquid cyanotype solutions are easy to combine. They produce a rich blue only obtained with quality materials. Transaction was simple and delivery was quick.

This is classic cyanotype chemistry. It's patient, forgiving, and tones well. The "B" solution is prone to molding once opened, but this doesn't affect its usability. Just dip your eyedropper below the surface to pick up the solution, and use it as you normally would. It doesn't get as immediately dark as the "new process" chemistry does, but it will darken naturally as it dries and oxidizes, or a quick bath in fresh water with about a capful of hydrogen peroxide after development (which itself just requires soaking in fresh, gently-flowing water) will speed up the darkening process. The new process chemistry, which is sold as a powder you have to make into a solution yourself through a laborious, finicky process, is admittedly more shelf-stable and basically mold-proof, but it's also more difficult to work with, especially since it seems to soak into paper more immediately, requiring much more chemistry to be used. This is why I prefer this classic formula. It comes pre-mixed in a solution, and it affords more time to work it over the surface of the printing substrate. Also, since it's easier to control the final print density, it lends itself much better to toning, because a lighter print is preferable for this additional bit of processing, since toning usually darkens the image considerably. I'm attaching a couple of prints I made with this chemistry and toned with tannic acid in a tone-bleach-tone process to demonstrate the chemistry's suitability for creating art prints. The images were published in The Hand magazine, an international quarterly magazine featuring reproduction-based art. "The Safety of a Thunderstorm" was also published by the Winnipeg Free Press, was featured by Your Daily Photograph, and is part of the Houston Center for Photography's permanent digital exhibit, "Togethering." This cyanotype chemistry just works, has a decent shelf life of 6-12 months, and is priced right to boot. I recommend it without reservation.

I love the Photographer's Formulary chemicals--especially the Cyanotype kit. I also purchased the solid chemicals to make the solutions on my own but I much prefer the liquids. Adorama always ships immediately and packages their products very well. I've never had any issue with anything I've ordered.

The formulary was easy to use! The best way I found was to use a sponge brush to apply it to watercolor or other art paper (a bit thicker than normal paper). Then I exposed for 5-20 min in the sun. I enjoyed using digital inverted prints (negatives) printed on transparencies to do the printing. High contrast images worked best.
