About Qnap TVS-882BRT3

TVS-882BRT3 - Thunderbolt 3 Blu-ray/RDX backup NAS for disc backup, video playback, and file sharing

The TVS-882BRT3 uses 7th Generation Intel 14nm multi-core processors and features Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gbps) connectivity, including a unique Thunderbolt-to-Ethernet (T2E) 10 GbE converter, and is ideal for online video editing and high-speed file sharing. The TVS-882BRT3 comes with a 5.25-inch SATA expansion bay, allowing you to install compatible disc drives or a RDX docking station (models with a pre-installed optical disc drive or a RDX docking station are available). You can back up the content of your discs/RDX cartridges to NAS for long-term storage and easier sharing, or you can write NAS-based files to discs/RDX cartridges for an extra layer of data protection. The TVS-882BRT3 comes with three PCIe Gen.3 slots. Two slots are preinstalled with dual-port Thunderbolt 3 expansion card, while the third slot allows for adding 10GbE/40GbE NIC, SAS storage expansion card, or a USB 3.1 10GbE adapter, making the TVS-882BRT3 ideal for diverse storage applications.

Complete backup scenarios
TVS-882BRT3 supports multiple backup media, enabling direct backup of content from your discs/RDX cartridges to NAS. Coupled with Qfiling's automatic file organization and Qsirch's full-text search engine, the TVS-882BRT3 brings a whole new experience for you to easily manage all the files from your discs/RDX cartridges on a private cloud. Files stored on the NAS can also be written to discs/RDX cartridges for additional backup protection. Diversified application scenarios include:

Note:
Linux Station is required to play disc-based multimedia (third-party media player software required - may require separate license purchase). Virtual machine allows for disc writing only.
Disc writing efficiency may vary depending on the ODD installed. Please ensure your ODD is compatible with TVS-882BRT3 before purchase.

Access files on disc/RDX cartridge
Browse files directly through File Station and share instantly with a share link. Qfiling enables automatic file organization while Qsirch allows for quick full-text search.

Archive confidential data to disc/RDX cartridge:
Write important data to discs using a virtual machine or Linux Station for long-term preservation or use File Station to write NAS files to RDX cartridges.

NAS as movie player:
Play discs via HDMI output using Linux Station.

Collaborative editing:
Enable high-speed collaboration via high bandwidth Thunderbolt 3 ports or install a QNAP PCIe 10GbE/40GbE NIC and use with a 10GbE switch.

Easy installation, quick backup and sharing
The TVS-882BRT3 comes with a SATA optical disc drive (ODD) expansion slot allowing you to install a 5.25" disc burner or two Slim SATA disc burners. The TVS-882BRT3 also supports USB disc drives. QNAP provides models with preloaded Blu-ray ODD for you to enjoy disc-related applications instantly. After installing the ODD, you can browse disc files directly through File Station and quickly backup the files to NAS, saving you time and trouble from transferring files to computer first then to the NAS. Multiple sharing modes (email, social network, sharing link, share to other NAS users) allows you to easily share information to others, solving the inconvenience of sharing disc files before.

Note:
A mounting kit (sold separately) is required to install Slim optical disc drives.
Disc performance varies by many factors, including drive, disc and system resources.

Disc backup and video playback
You can easily back up NAS-based files to discs using the TVS-882BRT3's optical disc drive. Long-term data archiving is possible by using popular disc authoring software via Linux Station or Virtualization Station. You can also directly enjoy disc-based media using VLC media player via remote desktop connection to Linux Station.

Note:
Virtual machine only supports disc authoring feature.
Blu-ray disc video playback is not supported in Linux Station.

Removable RDX hard disk backup
TVS-882BRT3 also integrates the Tandberg RDX QuikStor internal SATA 5.25-inch docking station (8813-RDX), allowing for installing removable and portable RDX hard disk cartridges. You can access and manage the files on the RDX cartridges using File Station or backup/sync the files to another NAS or to the cloud using Hybrid Backup Sync. Comparing to standard external hard drives, the Tandberg RDX cartridge features a rugged dust-proof design that can protect your data for a longer period of time.

Data archiving, backup and cloning with Archiware P5
Archiware's P5 Software Suite is cross-platform data management software for archiving, backup and cloning on QNAP NAS. The browser-based interface features four modules for you to securely backup, archive and restore data to different storage targets (including disk, tape and cloud storage). All of the modules also support file servers, Direct-attached Storage (DAS) and Storage Area Networks (SAN).

P5 Synchronize: Clones data to create a failover solution for time-critical setups.
P5 Backup: Produces secure copies of files for quick restoration.
Backup2Go: Backs up desktop and laptop data to disk.
P5 Archive: Migrates data offline for long-term storage.

Thunderbolt 3 NAS, Extraordinary Performance
Powered by high-performance 7th Generation Intel multi-core processors with options including Core i5 and Core i7 , DDR4 2133 MHz RAM (upgradable up to 64GB), four Gigabit Ethernet ports, and SATA 6Gb/s interface, the TVS-882BRT3 provides up to 447 MB/s read/ write speeds. The TVS-882BRT3 features Intel AES-NI-accelerated encryption for both full NAS volumes and shared folders to drive transfer speeds of up to 443 MB/s, boosting system performance and security while ensuring the safety of sensitive data stored in the TVS-882BRT3. The Thunderbolt 3 ports provide up to 40 Gbps bandwidth for high-speed data transfer. Users can also utilize its Thunderbolt 3 ports to have USB-C 3.1 Gen2 (10 Gbps) connectivity for quickly transferring and backing up large-sized media files from USB-C devices.

Note: Thunderbolt cables are sold separately. Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 converters may not be compatible with certain Windows PC models.
Mac OS 10.11.5 (and later) enables SMB signing by default, which may impact the connection speed to the NAS. To improve the connection speed, users can disable SMB signing or use Qfinder Pro to connect to the NAS.

Advanced hardware for greater efficiency
High-performance hardware, well-designed application functionalities and thoroughly-planned usage scenarios alongside flexible expansion are distinctive cornerstones for realizing optimum performance and diverse applications.

Thunderbolt 3 certified cable
Next-generation Thunderbolt 3 delivers bi-directional 20Gbps speed. Use a certified Thunderbolt 3 40Gbps cable (with the Thunderbolt icon and "3") and an SSD RAID5 configuration to enjoy the highest possible performance and the best storage allocation for your NAS.

Note: Please ensure your cable is Thunderbolt 3 certified.
