Shopper : Where can I get the appropriate cable for my Canon speedlite 540EZ?ANDREW R : Cables for the Quantum Battery 1+ may be found here: http://www.adorama.com/QTB1.html#accessories
ROGER H : Not sure but it doesn't seem the cord locks it ti the battery its a metz cable built quantum cord for a metz flash Whats the trick?LLOYD K : cord lock goes in backwards. For 6 volt flashes only!THOMAS G : If you're trying to plug a Metz brand cable into the Quantum battery, it won't work. You need the appropriate Quantum cable for your flash. You can Google Quantum Battery 1+ with your flash make and model and it should get you to the right spot on Quantum's web site. You could also just call the folks at Adorama and ask what the correct cable for your battery/flash combination is. If you're using the correct Quantum cable, it doesn't "lock in" to the battery. The connection is similar to that of a shielded jack used on a stereo. It should fit snugly, but not actually lock or snap into place. Good luck.
Carl N : Will this Quantum Batter 1+ use the same plug in wires as the Quantum Battery 1? Do I need lithium batteries in my flash units with this Quantum Battery 1+? I had purchased a Quantum Battery?? and needed to also use lithium batteries in my flash unit. That didn't make sense to me, and when my batteries in the flash went dead, I wondered just how useful the battery pack really was.TERRELL B : Yes. The Quantum battery 1+ can use the same cords as the original Battery 1. I own several of both units and the cords are interchangeable. The newer cords, however, have a locking feature which helps prevent the cord from coming unplugged during shooting. This may be important in critical shooting situations, particularly weddings and group shots. I have also used a strip of Velcro across the older cord to ensure it does not come loose. Enjoy.JAMES S : i need to know which flash unit your using with the battery 1+. In general most shoemount flashes the cable goes into the battery compartment. If its a hanble-mount flash like a Metz 45ct-4 you do need batteries in the flash in order to operate the brains of the flash The Quantum just supplies the power to the capacitor only. Almost all of Quantum's cables are able to used on Battery 1 and Battery1+JACK P : No you don't need battery's in your flash. The Quantum is the battery. I use a Sunpack 622 pro system and it plugs directly into the quantum battery at port number 1 or 2. If the flash does not have a cord to get the power from the Quantum to the flash, the Quantum would not work with your flash. Recycle time and the amount of flashs you get with the Quantum will depend on your f stop your shooting at. Shoot at f 2.0 and the time is instant for next shot. shoot at f 16 and it takes about 3 seconds. Hope this helps.

Dismal Performance

I've had a Quantum Battery 1 since the mid-80's and 2 years ago bought the 1+. The 1+ won't interface properly with my 580EX II or my 430EX strobe. It just goes into a comatose state with the red power light and one of the green charged lights staying on but no power to the strobes. Also, after having the Battery 1 serviced just 3 years ago it now won't hold a charge long enough to warrant using it. Considering the lower power needed for digital exposures [compared to film] I'm really surprised that I'm having this issue. The way it looks I'll probably be junking all the extra cords and extra weight with these things and just stocking up on rechargeable AA's. With the performance I'm getting from the ones I'm currently using I'll be $ ahead.

Quantum Battery 1+ is Junk!

I have used the Battery 2 for 14 years and have a Battery 1 those are Excellent, the screw housing is metal. I have 2 Battery 1+ and they both have cracked screw housing making it impossible to screw into. Also when replacing the Battery with Cylons, the Battery will short out on the circuit board. Quantum made an Excellent Product into a cheap piece of Plastic Junk!

As good if not better than the QB 1

The QB 1+ is every bit as reliable as the ol' QB 1. I used two (extremely) used models of the QB 1. The first I had to return to the owner, the second had just reached the end of its 10+ year life. Since I already had the dedicated battery cord to power my Nikon SB800 flash unit, I decided to get the QB 1+. I've had it for about a month and used it at 2 weddings and multiple on-location portrait sessions, all without fail. My standards may be a little high, but I only gave it 4 stars because I need a high burst-rate and while it did the job well, I could have used 1-2 more pops/flashes out of it. (It was extremely dark w/high ceilings. . . so I understand the recycle of 3 flashes at a time is adequate for most purposes.

Very reliable product

This is the second Quantum battery that I bought. The first one is nearly 3 years old., it still works great but for weddings I like a back up. I can usually get 400 shots per charge.

Best Battery For The Money !

Reliable ! I bought my QB-1 in 1990, and I JUST had the cells replaced. This battery served 5-years of photojournalism work and the remaining years for various service from weddings to light fill needs. This is an excellent choice if you have a need for quick flash recovery and endurance.

Reliable

Have used the Battery 1 for years. The 1+ just makes a good thing better. The power down when disconnected from a strobe is a great feature. Cable connector could be a bit better.

Quantum QB1+ Battery. Affordable, reliable power for most shoe-mounted flash units that use 4 or 5 "AA". (If your flash is handle-mounted and uses six "AA" batteries see the Quantum QB2 battery.)

Provides hundreds of flashes and fast, consistent recycling time. In many situation, when using your flash in automatic / TTL mode, and where full power is unnecessary, you can expect over 1,000 flashes.

50% faster recycling than "AA" batteries, and consistently fast recycling times, even as battery charge is depleted. The "fuel gauge" lights make monitoring battery capacity and charging a snap.

QB1+ is rechargeable up to hundreds of times. Save hundreds of dollars on throw-away batteries, and help the environment.
