How did I live without it?

Worth the money. I use it for studio photography and all videography. An absolute must have. As of now, this is better than any other option including the external recorders (Marshall, atomos, etc.). I use it with my 5d mark IV and iPad Pro. I know it’s not an external recorder, I wanted to compare external functions and image quality incase you were thinking of dropping $

No quarter-inch tripod mount

I had to buy a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter for tripod hole . Priced way too high.

Finally got one

Gotta say, this thing looks sweet from afar, but is even better when you are hands on. It opens up so many doors and gives you the tools to guarantee that your shot and focus are spot on. No more 3"Live View. Use with Nikon D800E. I do wish it was a little heavier duty plastic and for the price it should come with a case and sun shade

The concept is terrific and I look forward to using it in the field like I used a view camera

The concept is terrific and I look forward to using it in the field like I used a view camera. Two areas of concern: First, I needed a software patch from Manfrotto to make it communicate with my iPad Air 2 and Second, the anti-rotation connector that came with the 244 Micro Friction Arm doesn't attach the arm snuggly enough to prevent the Digital Director from rocking back and forth. I have ordered more conventional connectors w/o the anti-rotation tabs and hope this will correct.

Comparability? Canon 5D Mk II left out???

Not sure why they would not include the very popular Canon 5D Mark II. The ad when I purchased it said Canon 5D's , later after it arrives I learn that for some strange reason the Mark II was NOT supported?! For what does work it's pretty great, unfortunately they missed the "mark" by not including software that makes the unit compatible with the Mark II. Here are the compatibility issues I've found when trying to use the DD 1. Touch screen focus does not work, it pulls focus back n forth but never focuses properly and you can't move the crosshairs when unlocked. 2. After taking a picture it does not go back to live view without having to cycle through Lv on & off 3. Video mode now has a yellow icon colour that will only go away when the cameras live view is turned off. 4. Video shooting is not possible. 5. Exposure compensation doesn't work in picture mode 6. Manual focus has long lag time making it useless 7. Power button has gotten dislodged. 8. Case does not have a relief cutout for power button and will turn the unit on. 9. Case cutout doesn't fit the power adapter without having to force it, the prongs are touching the body of the DD. 10. Following the directions for the Velcro for the hood results in the DD being upside down or at least the logo ends up upside down, the power button on the bottom and the USB connector on top.

Could be built better

The product operates great but it sure could be more sturdy. I was opening up the battery compartment and hardly applying any pressure and one of the tabs broke off.

Digital Director for Ipad Air

Recently received the Manfrotto Digital Director for iPad Air. First needed to upgrade the iPad to support the Manfrotto app. Then found that the Digital Director did not support IOS 9.0 required for the app. Went to the Manfrotto web site and found the info on update to support IOS 9. Followed the direction, it bombed out several times. Placed a case number with the company. After receiving an email response telling me to try what I had already had no luck with, I managed to get a call in and talked to the primary support person for the DD. After a little back and forth, found out that the firmware update will work fine if you use a 1GB or smaller USB memory stick. I had been using a larger one and it would not work. When I used a 1 GB stick, the update worked as described. The service rep said that this could explain several other cases of customers not being able to upgrade and when the item was sent to him, he had no problems doing an upgrade. SO, if you have this item and need to do the firmware upgrade, us a 1GB or smaller memory stick. As to the functioning of the product after all of the above is accomplished, I have only had a short time to do desk testing. For the most part, it appears to be the answer I have been looking for, but a field test yet remains to be accomplished. Hopes are high based on desk testing.
