Questions & Answers

Shopper : Is this 1 gallon of mix or enough mix to make 1 gallon?GREGORY F : Packaged 1quart part A and 3fl oz part B. Makes 1 gallon for film and 2 gallons for paper. I hope this answered your question.PATRICK H : enough to make one gallon of film fix or two gallons of paper fix
Shopper : Have no directions on how to mix this. What is the ratio of water to fixer plus ratio of A to B?PATRICK H : Part A 1:3 for film, adding 1 fl oz Part B per quart (hardener) Part A 1:7 for paper, NO Part B for RC paper, don't know about fiber-based paper, advise consulting AdamsKEVIN M : There are directions on each bottle. It's very simple. Solution A is in a 32 ounce bottle and gets mixed with 32 ounces of water. Solution B is 3.5 ounces, I believe, and gets mixed with water to make 64 ounces total. Then the two solutions are combined to make one gallon of fixer. Both solutions can be mixed at 60-80 degrees, so they can be mixed at a working temperature of 68 to 75 degrees depending on your other chemicals and preferences.GREGORY F : Google Search "kodak rapid fixer instructions" first result - page 5 "How to Process and Print Black-and-White Film - Kodak" from PDF "Fixing Baths KODAK Rapid Fixer. An easy-to-use liquid concentrate for very rapid fixing of films and normal fixing of prints. It consists of two concentrates that you add to water to prepare the fixing bath. Dilute 1:3 for film and 1:7 for paper."
David B : i have an old bottle of this product and part a seems to have some chrystalls attached to the inside. is this product still of any use? i don't remember if it was like this when i bought it new about 15 years ago. thank you. davidPAIGE A : Fixer that old is probably no good. You could always try it but I know that once it's opened it loses it's power pretty fast.ROBERT W : the shelf life of the fixer depends on storage conditions, etc. Personally, I would start with some new fixer rather than risk messing something up with 15 yr old product. If you insist on trying to use it, test it with a piece of exposed film to see if it clears. A precipitate in part A is a bad sign. Bottom line: I'd get a new bottle of fixer.VIRGINIA K : I doubt it's still of any use. Sorry! The stuff usually expires within a couple months, if stored properly.PATRICK H : unless the work you are doing with this stuff is totally expendable (i.e., no film, since film can't be replaced), I would NOT use it - it's not worth taking the chance. please dispose of it properly; if it is unopened, I think you can return it to Kodak for proper disposal, if they still do that (they used to). my recommendation is based on 40+ years' experience in the darkroom, which has taught me it is best to not take these sorts of chances; what you may save is far less than what you might lose...

Works

Does the job well. I'm too much of a novice to know any differently, but I like the results.

KODAK Liquid Rapid Fixer

By Albert J.

my go to fixer

Kodak Rapid Fixer is a two-part liquid concentrate for tray manual processing that provides rapid fixation and hardening. Kodak Rapid Fixer also serves as a replenisher to revive and extend the life of the original solution. Recommended for film and other uses where ammonium thiosulfate is an appropriate fixer.
