Sub 400 Yards- Overpriced and Low Quality

Under 400 yards and this rangefinder is fairly accurate. Past 400 and it's worthless. I regularly shave to ask my hunting buddy to re-range anything past 400 and his Sig is way more accurate. Even on reflective surfaces shooting at a range, I was getting inconsistent readings on a target at 550 yards. Not worth $500.

Good but not great

I love everything about this range finder but the fact that it will not range anything black. I went to my first archery tournament today and every black target and sometimes brown targets I could not get a range on, for $500 I'm disappointed

Failed me too many times.

Countless times this range finder has failed me while hunting in the backcountry. If conditions are just less than perfect it won't perform 9/10 times. The ability to get a reading in those low light transition hours is so important and unfortunately the ranger 1800 just can't do it. In fog, snow or rain the performance is hindered. During my testing I couldn't range a deer at 70yards in very light snow. I'm still a fan of Vortex products and their warranty but this one is disappointing.

Mean little Ranger

I had one for a while. Worked great. After abusing the hell out of it, It needed some love. Sent to Vortex to see if they could work out a small issue. They sent me a new one. Amazing service. Earned a customer. Right when I was looking for a 3k piece of glass. Great customer service.

Vortex

This is more of a review of Vortex rather than only their products. This is hands down the best company I have ever conducted business with. I assure you they will stand behind their product and treat you better than fair.

Great product

I purchased this rangefinder to replace my old rangefinder. I must say that I am very pleased with the results of this product. It worked great on the hunt that I went on and it worked pretty decent through dense fog in ranging targets up close. I wish I had purchased it sooner.

This thing works

I was looking for a new range finder that was small and actually worked at range. I wanted an all around one for Bowhunting and rifle hunting. Im so glad I had the Vortex team spend time with me and push me into this one instead of another. This rangefinder works. I beat it up on my elk hunt this past elk season and it worked without issues.

Performance isnt close to the sales pitch

Everything about this range finder is great and good. Except ranging... Ranging from 600m/660yd and out is difficult. Think I have never had a range detection at 750m or further. From under 500m is no problem, but from 500m/545yd and up is difficult. That they say you can range a deer up to 900yd is BS, trees and good reflecting surfaces cant reach out to 900yd and get a solid ranging. even if you are laying down and using something to hold it stady. So for field use it usable for under 600m. But the performance is way below the sales pitch. I have had two of these. Had one for almost a year, One fall to the ground (from the waist and the Laser/sensor shifted and could range anymore. Got a new one from the warrenty one week later. My nummber two I had it for a year or so, but will be looking in to a new rangefinder, because this dosent keep ut with the specs.

Great Range Finder

I purchased this about a year ago and really used it a lot over the past season. It is a very clear, accurate and easy to use range finder. I pulled it out to use this year and the menu button would not work. I sent an email to vortex and received a response from Jim and with bow season already underway and primative arms deer season in Louisiana starting in a week and a half Jim is sending a new range finder and I will return mine so that I do not have to go to the field without my range finder. Jim and Vortex provided outstanding customer service and stand behind their products. I will definitely purchase more Vortex products in the future.

3D Archery

I love Vortex optics. I have 3 Vortex scopes, 1 Bino, and this is my first Vortex Range Finder. At first I was excited about it. I was ranging various objects with good success. Haybales at 700Y a reflective sign at 1000Y. Did not try anything farther than that. But when I was trying to range my black dog it would not pick him up. Not even at 25 Y. I bought this for 3D Archery and when I took it out for the first time 50% of the targets would not range and they were all within 50Y. I might have to continue to use my old Bushnell cheapy range finder. The Bushnell could pick up the same black dog that this Vortex could not. I don't know if it is the foam or what, but I could pick up the trees that were around the targets most of the time. That is not to say I don't like it. The build quality feels very good. I like that it has a bit of weight to it. On a bright sunny day out in the open it picks out objects like no body's business. But in the trees where there are shadows it struggles to range 3D foam targets.

Not what you expect

This thing disappointed me every single time I needed it the most. Whether its a sun a just a bit of the snow it will not give you any number. Lost so many arrows this hunting season I could've bought your competition product instead. not counting the deer.. If someone could give me a call how to proceed with exchange that would be awesome.

Falls short of the mark

I'll preface with, I'm a huge vortex fan. I own dozens of products from them and sold them for 5 years in a retail setting. With that said, the Ranger has been a disappointment. I've had the 1000 and it was warrantied with an 1800. Shortly after I got the 1800, I tried ranging a shear rock face. It took about 30 tries before it returned with 1220 yards. Now, using it whitetail deer hunting, I couldn't get a range on a deer at 215 yards (I used basemap for this measurement). I haven't had luck ranging an animal past about 170 yards. I will likely look into other options for next season.

Ok but...

Like it. But... sides to case need to be full length rather than 3/4 length. I hunted a dust bowl in Idaho for mule deer this year and couldn’t get an accurate reading on my rangefinder until I cleaned the glass with my shirt. Would have bought a leupold but there warranty isn’t lifetime like vortex but there rangefinders come with full length coverage in the case. Please fix this issue and send me a new case with full side coverage.

Everything I need in a simple package

As a bow hunter getting the shot correct is a very large component of a quick and ethical kill. It also weighs heavy in retrieving my quarry with high percentages of success. Taking the guesswork out of shooting from elevated positions leaves just that much more time to focus on my shot. Not saying that you shouldn't know how to calculate the correct yardage, for me is rather be paying attention to my shooting lane and shot placement at that critical time. This is also a rugged and reliable piece of equipment that has found a permanent place in my pack.

Best rangefinder I’ve owned

I bought this before the 2019-2020 deer season and I’m very happy with it!

Bow hunting must have

I have had this rangefinder for the past 2 hunting seasons. While bow hunting I try to keep my weight ( me, my gear and climber) to a minimum. I am usually walking in and carrying my climber. This range finder is something I never go with out, the glass stays clear in an wet environment and the battery life is phenomenal. I love to climb up in the tree I’m going to hunt out of and range all the clean shooting lanes I have and keep a mental note and when a deer hits any of those spots I know the yardage. I also like bringing it when I go target shooting to range my targets, the ranger definitely a hunters and shooters friend.

Compact, lightweight, reliable

I’ve owned this range finder for a few years now and can’t speak highly enough of it. It’s in my pocket everyday of whitetail season, went with me to hunt elk in Wyoming, and is with me anytime I’m on the range with any of my guns. The size and durability make it a must have for any hunter. The biggest complaint i get from recommending it to people is always price until we hunt together and i have them compare it to their current rangefinder. The clarity, accuracy, and ease of use sell anyone instantly on purchasing one.

Great Rangefinder

This range finder is great for multiple uses. I primarily use it for whitetails in the midwest and the 6x mag on it is enough to not have to use your bino's 100% when hunting in the timber.

Better than expected!

Where to start. After trying many other brands of rangefinder I finally found the best of the best with the Vortex Ranger! I love all the features it has to offer and more. Since then I have added many other Vortex optics to my collection and couldn't be happier and am now an All Vortex Kind Of Guy. I love this company and all their products and as well as their customer service. Cant beat them or it!

Works well at shorter distances

Packs well and intuitive to use. Good glass for the money. Works very well within 600 yards, but not much farther. Even when glassing hillsides, it struggles to give me readings over 600. I have never been able to a reading over 850. That includes setting on LOS. I’ve had other brands at comparable price ranges who’s electronics performed better.

Great - But does not range beyond 600 yards

Anything beyond 600 yards weather a hill or a tree does not range. The furthest reading I was able to get was 625. Not that I would be shooting at anything beyond 600 but would be nice to determine feature ranges when planning terrain movements.

Satisfied Customer

I own the whole Vortex line, Razer Spotting Scope, Viper Binocs, Diamondback scope. I purchased this to replace a competitors product that started showing a known problem of burn-in around the outside of the viewing area. Needless to say, this product (along with all Vortex products) is made to last a lifetime. The view through the glass is crisp and bright. The distance that this rangefinder can reach out to is incredibly far and accurate, and having the possibility to stabilize it using a tripod is a nice to have option. The only complaint I have is more of an aesthetics thing than anything, but it would be nice if Vortex offered their range finders with a Camo finish, but other than that, this is a great product. After using many other brands throughout my lifetime, Vortex is the best in reliability, durability and price, I am a Vortex customer for life.

Solid Product

This rangefinder checks all the boxes for my needs. Clear optics and a backlit display highlight the features. In dim light target acquisition can be difficult and reading distances even more frustrating with lesser products but not with the Ranger. The feel and interface re-assure you that quality was engineered into the final product. I've previously owned two other manufacturers rangefinders and they did not come close to the Ranger.

Lightweight and Durable

I bought this a few months ago and have no reason to look for another one. It has already been dropped (approx 3' off the ground) and has no scratches or dents. It's also relatively lightweight in that I don't feel like I have extra bulk on me. Love it!

Ranger 1800

Bought the Ranger 1800 about 2 months ago and am very pleased with its performance. The user interface is very simple and the craftsmanship is bar none. Everything is clean and sleek. I am beyond impressed with the rangefinder and know that it will perform. Ranged a couple of beats at 700 yards already. Look forward to using this during deer and elk season. Also the VIP warranty is awesome.

Great Accuracy

Excellent rangefinder. Real easy to use. Been ranging for hunting and for work purposes while working for my department. So far has been as accurate as my partners extremely high dollar rangefinder. Being able to user the HCD feature is key when ranging targets during scouts for marathons and other events in or downtown area. We usually post on to of surrounding buildings. Small in size slurred for easy carry. Thanks for a great product.

Flawless rangefinder

This is my goto rangefinder. It's easy to use for Archery in a tree stand ranging deer and pigs (not over a feeder.) I also use this for setting up different ranges for rifle plinking and making range cards for a little fun competition.

I bought this ranger 1800 before my current deployment to Afghanistan. I’m a U.S. Army sniper with the 10th Mountain Division and an avid shooter. I own many Vortex optics and this was a no brainer. The display is bright, the buttons are very tangible and easy to find with gloves on, the clarity of the glass is also more than you would expect for middle of the line range finder. I was able to easily and quickly find ranges to multiple targets during all hours of the day. Shooting at angles is...

Works like a charm

By D-MC

I use this mainly for bow hunting, but also used it to gauge some landmarks while deer hunting gun season last year. Granted, the ranges I was looking at were 150 yards or less, but the compact package, and ease of use allowed me to range deer without being busted. I've enjoyed using it to tune my bow as well setting targets at various distances in the yard to check my pins. I've gotten my unit wet, and dropped it in snow and have had no issues at all. just dried it off and went about my...
