I really like this lens. I know it is not a top of the line but it fit a need for me at a price I couldn't pass up. I find if I take my time with it I get great results. It's build quality is good, not great, but the metal ring to connect to the camera is welcome. It is night a lightning fast AF, but with that lense I am not shooting moving things. If you need a wider angle prime, and have a tight budget, this is worth a very serious look.

Find the images a little soft. But a F/2 lens for a hundred what can you say.

Crisp lens. Love it so far. Used it mostly for landscape but did have some portrait shots with it and its a great lens for the price.

Good little lens, especially for the price. It does have a bit of an issue with sticking while in autofocus but it can be coaxed back easily.

I know you get what you pay for... but after having GREAT results with the Canon 50mm in the same price range I figured I would give it a try. Terrible focus (yes I took off both glass protectors), funky discoloration. I tried in different light settings and it was terrible regardless. Save your pennies and invest in something better. I've emailed Adorama about a return and refund, hopefully they'll impress me so I can continue shopping here.

The value for price ratio is unbeatable on this one. I bought it for its small size and light weight, and because it covers full frame. The construction is decent enough, better than plastic-mount kit lenses but not close to the AF-S 50mm f/1.4 which it tries to imitate in its design. On crop, if you focus carefully image quality is reasonable even wide open and gets decent at f/2.8. Maximum sharpness is at f/4. Bokeh is ok, smooth and not too distracting. It seems to me that many people complaining about image quality and softness actually have poor images because they were not in focus. And this takes us to the lens' biggest problem: autofocus performance. On my D7000 it was sketchy at best, sometimes missing focus or randomly refusing to focus. The problem is solved by rebooting the camera or (rarely) re-mounting the lens. This is most likely a software issue, but it means that this is simply a lens that is too risky to rely on on paid jobs. On newer cameras, such as D5300, it flat-out refused to report EXIF data, and sometimes wouldn't even expose correctly (most likely because it was reporting erroneous f-numbers to the camera). Yet on my film F65 it performed FLAWLESSLY, producing lovely negatives and being generally very fun to use, as that kit is so small and light that I have come to prefer it over my Canonet on trips. It is also perfect for video, where you absolutely shouldn't use AF. TL;DR: The good: fun to use, light, great for film cameras and video The bad: poor AF performance, mediocre sharpness (though usable), software/compatibility hiccups with newer cameras

I thought I could spare ($) for an extra lens and bought this. It is such low quality I wouldn't even give it a point of a star. Cheap to touch, focus slow and loud, and most importantly the quality of the image is less than an instamatic. Do NOT buy. Come on Yongnuo, I bought your flashes, just make a basic lens with good glass.

Fun, light weight, and produces nice images for weekend shoots without lugging my 35L. But I do have to under expose it in well lit conditions

Good build and great performance

This lens has a solid build and it does what it says.
This fantastic prime lens is an excellent addition to your current lens lineup. With a 35mm focal length and F2.0 aperture, it's perfectly suited for portraiture. A 35mm lens also tends to be close to the human eye in terms of magnification factor, making it ideal for casual and street photography. The large max aperture also lends it to lower-light situations better than the standard kit lens, which might max out at F4 or F5.6.
This lens features multi-coated glass elements for proper color rendition and minimal ghosting or flaring in bright settings. It's suited equally well for shooting on full-frame camera bodies or APS-C format cameras, where it actually provides a 65mm equivalent focal length. The aperture diaphram is made up of 7 individual blades, which provides a smooth bokeh when you're working with selective focus. As for the mount itself, its contacts are gold-plated, allowing for a perfect connection and reliable functionality with the camera.
At the entry level of photo gear, this lens will do what you ask of it, delivering sharp images and helping you save both space and money for filling up the rest of your camera bag.
