Review Summary
The term "graphic equalizer" refers to a device that allows a user to "draw" the desired frequency response by using slider controls on the unit's front panel. However, the physics of filter designs has meant that the end result was essentially a compromise, an approximation, as adjacent bands would interact to some degree or other. The 45mm slider DEQ 60L and the 25mm slider DEQ 60 from Rane solve this problem.
Using Digital Signal Processing (DSP), Rane has developed a filter design that exhibits virtually no band interaction and extremely low ripple between adjacent bands. Called Perfect-Q, the result is the first graphic equalizer whose output response precisely matches slider settings. For those users who want to use a more traditional filter response, each channel of the DEQ 60L is selectable between Perfect-Q or Proportional-Q response.
In addition to the unique filters, the DEQ 60L features high and low pass filters, input and output level adjustment, a choice of boost/cut range (+/-12dB or +/-6dB) or cut-only mode, the ability for each channel to use either the A or B channel controls and multiple connectivity options. A bypass switch, bypass relay and a universal switching power supply make this unit a truly professional product.
