By exposing the entire sensor at once, a global shutter allows creators to shoot the scenes they want with no compromise or post-production needed to remove the “jello effect.” Alone, the new global shutter would be an amazing upgrade, but Red has also introduced a suite of tools to simplify and enhance the production process: Red Global Vision.
Red Global Vision combined with the global shutter in the Red Digital Cinema V-RAPTOR (X) 8K VV DSMC3 Cinema Camera adds the flexibility of reaching into the highlights for more detail via Extended Highlights. This allows for more detail in High Dynamic Range (HDR) or can be turned off for a more subtle highlight roll-off when finishing with Standard Dynamic Range (SDR). In addition, RED Global Vision features Phantom Track, which helps streamline those virtual production environments using GhostFrame TM or Frame Mapping. Since individual R3D clips are captured per sub-frame slice, they can be monitored live on set via SDI.
