Questions & Answers

EDGAR G : Am I able to hook it up with my DSLR Nikon D750?JORGE P : If you’re a Nikon D7 50 has a mic input yes you can connected to your camera I’m not a nice guy shooter but that’s the answer
Shopper : Do I have to purchase two cameras if I have two mics? Like a interview..ELIESER F : You can use two Wireless Rode Systems by connecting one to your main camera and the second to a sound recorder such as the Zoom H4N with and adapter for the input.DOUG L : There are several ways you can do this - one is to have two cameras, another is to buy an audio recorder - hook up one rode to your camera and one to the recorder. Another way is to have a camera with two mic inputs. You can also hook up both Rodes to an audio recorder like the zoom H4 https://<a href="http://www.adorama.com/zoh4npro.html" target="_blank">www.adorama.com/zoh4npro.html</a> and then sync the sound in post.James J : You could buy a 3.5mm splitter like the Hosa YMM-261. A friend of mine used it successfully with 2 lavs and an A7s camera. Good luckEddie S : the receiver (rx) only supports 1 transmitter (tx). I would suggest looking at a low-cost mic mixer board that will allow you to connect 2 or more mics into it and then have a single output from the mixer to the camera. Here is an example of a mixer https://<a href="http://www.adorama.com/shscm410.html" target="_blank">www.adorama.com/shscm410.html</a>
Shopper : Can you use two of these at the same time with two different cameras?ANDY G : Yes you can. Just set and sync each pair to different channels.Perry O : If 2 sets then yes. Each pair, transmitter and receiver are used on different channels. So you can use multiple pairs at the same time. They cannot share channels. So you could use 2 mics on one person going to 2 different cameras.

duped into buying used with missing parts.

I am very upset that this was obviously used and no where on the listing did it say it was used. I'm missing the Cold Shoe Mount!!

Overall good but has static occasionally

Overall good wireless, use it for interviews plugged into a tascam or straight to camera. Only problem is sometimes the transmitter gets finicky with movement and will send a static noise over. Always check my connections, but notice that if a shirt or jacket moves the cable any it can cause static.

Works great

They’re a little bit big for the transmitter and receiver, but aside from that this mic works really well.

Great budget wireless microphone, with a lackluster build

I have always been a fan of rode microphones. The filmmaker kit of the RodeLink is great because it allows simple ease of use and a minor level of control to allow you to achieve a better sound quality. The receiver has a -10 and -20 pad while the receiver can amplify by +10 and +20. I never have to fight my internal camera’s preamp to get the best quality possible. I wish the casing was metal and not plastic. It, however, feels like a durable plastic. I like how the included lav microphone includes a foam windscreen and a dead cat. Another downside is the cables. They use a tightening lock on the cables attached to both the receiver and transmitted that just don’t work. Having worked with sennheiser’s wireless offerings and the same locking cable idea, it is said to see that the cable locking just doesn’t work. However, I am not worried about the cables being yanked out. I am also a little displeased but the cold shoe adapter included for the receiver as if it feels cheap and ineffective; although, I have never had an issue of the transmitter falling off my camera. I do recommend this kit for the price, but the quality of the build is what suffers for such a cheap price tag.

Rodelink filmaker

The clarity that the rode mic produces for the price is incomparable. This is a recommended buy for anyone having to stay within this price range. Super easy to set up and go. Couldn't ask for more.

A good, decent system for single person interview or talk/ seminar

Sound quality is very good. Easy to use and easy to set-up. Battery life is also adequate. However, it only support one channel so if there are two to three people on the platform to talk then it's a challenge with this system.

Excellent choice for wireless audio

I purchased this product after seeing it on a daily sale site. Since I'm a hobbyist I didn't want to spend too much. After reading the reviews and watching countless youtube videos I took a chance. I can firmly say this wireless audio system is awesome! It has exceeded my expectations. Connecting the receiver and transmitter was so easy (although I did discover conflicting instructions on pairing). No big deal, easy fix. I was recording clear audio in no time. I highly recommend this RODELink Wireless System.

Seems like it'll do the job, a step up from a wired mic

I turned it on and it worked. Audio is clear and works from pretty far away, they say up to 100m of distance. It's my first wireless mic setup and I'm excited to start using it, nice build and super easy to get going.

I recently used the RODELink Digital Wireless System for a video interview in tandem with a Rode VideoMic Pro. I g found the Rodelink captured superior sound and was warmer than the VideoMic Pro.

Easier to work with than the Sennheiser G series, but microphone isn't as good.

I like the RODELink Digital Wireless system a lot, especially with ease of locating your channel and onboard controls. However, from those of us coming from a Sennhehiser G series wireless system, the one thing that will probably be of a concern is the audio quality of the RODE lav microphone. It isn't as warm as what you are probably used to with the Sennheiser ME 2 series cardioid mic. However, you can always use the ME 2 with the RoadLink wireless system if you wanted to. The build quality of the ROADLink is good, even though it's made entirely of a hard plastic, the range is good as well, but the size is a little larger than the Sennheiser G series, though without the need for antennas. Pricing would be about the same between the ROADLink and Sennheiser G series if you included a different lav mic like the ME 2 with it.

RodeLink Filmmaker

Used my new RodeLink at the South Bay Philharmonic concert in SJ. Placed Transmitter on a modified tripod with 3/8 bolt at about 8 ft behind conductor. TX at +10 dB, Rx at 0 dB, Sony RX10-IV set at 3 with about 5-7 dB headroom during warmups. Results were great. No adjustments, picked up individual speakers, piano solo, recorder duet, tuba concerto, string quintet & full orchestra. Much better than camera mike. Sound quality was quite good. I was over 100 ft away in back of church. Battery drain was minimal after 3.5 hrs. A little difficult turning the knurled fasteners.

Solid system for a good price.

Great system for the price. The packs are a bit big, but not too heavy. The mic sound quality if quite good. I use 2 of these systems In combination with Sound Devices Mix Pre 6 recorder. Had a chance to put it to its paces recently on a short film. Had no problem with connection at distances of about 150 feet , indoor to outdoor. No signal drop outs or interference.

Rode Filmmakers kit

Great piece of equipment. The polar pattern picks up very good no matter the direction the talent turns his/her head so long as it's well placed. Clarity of Rode microphones have always been the best and now Lavaliers, although the cases could be more compact.

Excellent system!

By Matt

I've found the RodeLink to be an excellent system with performance that met my expectations. Setup is super simple and battery life, so far, seems great. I wish it had a headphone output on the receiver, but other than that, I happy with the feature set.

Using Multiple Transmitters with RODELink Receiver

Each RØDELink System is designed to operate as a pair and you can only receive audio from one transmitter unit at any time.

Each RØDELink receiver has up to eight memory locations where it can store paired transmitters so you can have one receiver unit that can connect to eight transmitters without having to re-pair the units.

To switch between paired transmitters (in this example Ch1 and Ch2) on the same receiver, follow these steps:

  • Turn off transmitter using Ch1
  • Switch receiver to Ch2
  • Turn on transmitter using Ch2
  • Wait for the units to pair
RODELink Receiver

Operating Range for the RODELink Wireless System

The RØDELink system has an operating range up to 100m (~110 yards), however as with all wireless transmission devices this operating range can be influenced by external factors.

The RØDELink system operates in the 2.4GHz frequency spectrum which is shared with common wireless transmission devices such as WiFi networks, Bluetooth devices, microwave ovens and more. The more 2.4GHz devices that are simultaneously running in the same location as your RØDELink system, the more congested this 2.4GHz frequency spectrum will be, cutting down the signal strength and overall operating range for all 2.4GHz devices. In a very busy 2.4GHz environment you may find your RØDELink system is unable to maintain its maximum operating range.

Signal travelling distance is also another possible factor. This refers to the physical distance between the Receiver (RX) and Transmitter (TX). An unobstructed line of sight between the two devices will provide the shortest possible signal travelling distance, therefore the strongest signal. If the signal needs to travel through, or around walls and other objects, this lengthens your signal travelling distance, reducing overall signal strength.

RODELink Wireless System

RODELink represents the next generation of digital wireless systems. Using a series II 2.4GHz digital transmission with 128-bit encryption, it is able to constantly monitor and hop between frequencies to maintain the strongest possible signal level at a range of up to 100 metres (over 100 yards). The RODELink Filmmaker Kit provides everything you need to start shooting video wirelessly, including a receiver, transmitter and broadcast-grade lavalier microphone. The receiver (RX-CAM) features an OLED display with information on level, battery status (receiver and transmitter), mute and channel selection.

The unit can be mounted on a standard camera shoe mount, 3/8" thread or belt-clip and for added versatility the shoe mount can be located in one of two positions. The lightweight transmitter (TX-BELT) can be fitted to a belt or clothing and features a locking thread to ensure the microphone connection is as secure as possible. RODE's omnidirectional Lavalier microphone is included in the kit to provide the highest possible audio reproduction quality.

100 Metre Range
RODELink is so intuitive that it works straight out of the box, with no channel selection necessary. For users with multiple RODELink devices the system offers eight discrete channels that can be setup in seconds.

Power & Secure
Using a series II 2.4GHz encrypted digital transmission that is sent on two channels simultaneously, RODELink automatically selects the strongest signal and ensures your audio is as reliable and secure as a cabled connection.

Designed & Made in Australia
The RODELink system is proudly designed and manufactured at RODE's headquarters in Sydney, Australia.

Available March 2015
The RODELink Filmmaker Kit provides everything you need to start filming with wireless audio, including a beltpack/camera-mount receiver, beltpack transmitter and broadcast-quality lavalier microphone.
