Works great with camcorder. Closing of the battery door is difficult and I think it needs to be fixed.

So far this has been a very good microphone. I have only had time to do a few tests, but I am looking forward to using it for some bigger projects in the future.

Sound is good, but at the same price and size, I'd rather get the Shure VP83, which has equally good sound but uses a more common battery lying around most homes rather than a 9v.

I bought this to use with my Canon 70D, DSLR. I'll echo what many others have rightly said, posted, reviewed: DO use the +20dB gain up on the mic itself, and absolutely crank down the gain on the camera itself as far as you can realistically stand. The built in audio on the camera is pretty noisy, and even with the mic gained up it's really acceptable. For my purposes, I've turned the Canon's sound input down to literally the last click above 'off' altogether, and that's produced the least noisy resultant audio, and I've gained it up just a few more clicks to get more level, though I could probably do better with normalizing audio in a video editor. Anyway. The onboard mic on the camera, if you're in a pinch, you know, it works. Obviously picks up a lot of ambient noise. Using the Videomic gives a whole lot flatter, more realistic response, less ambient noise, and better direction and more presence in at least voice recordings, which is thus far all I've used it for. I'd debated wireless lavs, which just due to proximity would surely be even better in most cases, but the convenience of just putting this on the camera won out, and I'm happy with the purchase.

Great sound. 20db pad is great for cameras with bad pre-amps. A little expensive, but has been worth the investment.

I had the first version of this mic and it has great sound but the build quality was horrible. this fixes all the quirks that the old one had. It works and sounds great for my sony A7 cameras!

Super stoked on my new microphone. I used to have the VideoMic Go and I had some trouble with static and poor audio quality. I decided to upgrade and it was the right move. The sound is rich and there is little background noise being picked up. Adorama did a great job with shipping and customer service with my microphone too. On a separate note, I bought a laptop a few weeks earlier from Adorama and I had the same great shopping experience. 10/10 good product, good company.

Much better than the original version

The RODE VideoMic Pro is a true shotgun microphone designed for use with camcorders, DSLR cameras and portable audio recorders as a source of primary and reference audio. At the heart of the VideoMic Pro is an all-new 1/2" condenser capsule that provides broadcast-quality audio via a 3.5mm minijack connector (outputting the mono signal to both left and right channels) with an incredibly low self-noise of just 14db. A super-cardioid polar pattern ensures that surrounding audio is minimized and your recording is focused on the subject in front of the camera.
The integrated Rycote Lyre based shock mounting system separates the VideoMic Pro capsule and electronics from its mount, providing isolation from external physical factors that may cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone. Constructed from a single piece of hard-wearing thermoplastic, the Lyre provides superior acoustic suspension to traditional elastic solutions and will never wear out, sag or snap. Easily accessible on the rear face of the microphone are the power, filter and level controls. In addition to the microphone's native 40Hz-20kHz response a selectable high-pass filter at 80Hz is available, which will prevent low end noise such as air conditioners and traffic from being recorded.
Below these controls are the level settings, which attenuate or boost the recorded level as required. The -10dB level attenuation (or PAD) is ideal for recording loud sound sources, such as live music, motorsport or interviews where the subject is very close to the camera. The +20dB level boost is designed for use with DSLR cameras, allowing the user to reduce the camera's preamp level (or mic-input level), effectively reducing the amount of noise generated by the camera's comparatively low quality audio circuitry. The microphone uses a standard sized shoe mount for on camera use and features a 3/8" thread in the base of the mount for easy boom pole mounting.
The VideoMic Pro is battery powered and provides over 70 hours recording from a single 9V battery. The RODE VideoMic is designed and made in Australia and covered by RODE's industry leading 10 Year Warranty.
