Great mic for Pro Video Makers. A must have. The only real complaint I have is: For a $200+ mic, I got the worst switches in my life. They will not stay on.

I picked this up mainly for using on a boom for sit down interviews. I also considered the NTG2 but after watching a lot of reviews and getting feedback from friends, I decided to give this mic a try. I'm very impressed with the quality from such an affordable mic. I haven't used it on camera yet but I'm sure the results will be impressive as well.

Love this mic. The quality has been good enough for my projects, its way better than the built-in mic on my 5D mii. Its small (enough) and lightweight, so I always keep it in a side pocket in my camera bag for when I need it. It takes like 10 seconds to install and turn on. Main drawback: I have forgotten to turn it on on multiple occasions, and if it's plugged in but not turned on then the camera records no audio so you end up without a baseline track to even sync your secondary audio sources to. That's just operator error and not the mics fault. Would I recommend it? Totally.

This mic is amazing. I use it for VO recordings, on a boom for film shoots, and mounted on my camera for quick shots. Crisp, clear, quiet sound. Extremely happy with this mic. The accessories were all in great condition and attached easily.

Works well. The sound is a big step up over the built in mic on my Canon 70D. My only complaint is that changing out the battery is a little fiddly and inconvenient.

This mic really works as advertised. Easy to install, clear audio to my video files. I would recommend this mic to anyone starting to take more professional video. Plus, if you register your unit with RODE, you could get a 10 year warranty! Hard to beat that!

I like this mic through limited use. It's very lightweight but seems durable. Sound quality is good. The option to tweak for really loud scenarios is great, I mostly shoot live bands.

As a beginner to creating films nabbing this was a great idea. All over the internet you can see praise for it and with good reason: this thing yields amazing audio for a really good price. I've tried cheaper shotgun mics and they always ended up with some extra noise that killed the scene. This has proven across all of my shots so far to be very high quality.

Nice quality on live music audio recordings. Definitely better than what you get with a built-in camcorder microphone. Audio sounds more open and contains noticeably more bass content. I definitely like the -20 dB attenuator setting for live recordings - without it, the mic signal would definitely oversaturate. The shock mount is a definite plus as well; I don't pick up any coupled noise from handling my camcorder. The only negative that I had was that the plastic gain/attenuate switch cover on the back fell off and got lost the second time I used it. This isn't an issue for me though because I don't expect to need to change the setting for my normal use - plus it keeps me from inadvertently changing the switch position during use. I can still change the switch position with a small screwdriver.

Needed to do a video interview shoot with My Nikon D810. I wanted a wireless system but a good one is too expensive unless you are going to use it all the time. I ordered the Nikon and the Rode on camera microphones. The Nikon on-camera mic did not make a noticeable improvement over the built-in camera mic. The Rode, however, gave excellent sound when the camera was placed about 10 feet from the subject.
