Rockin the Rokinon

I got my Rokinon 14mm 2.8 MKll on sale last spring at Adorama for my Nikon D610. The weather sealing and focus lock are the main reasons I chose the MKll version. I have used this lens many nights over the last year photographing the Milky Way and have been very impressed with the image quality. The reviews of this lens for astrophotography were very good so I decided to spend the $400 and have not been disappointed. Being an Old, old school photographer, the manual lens settings brought me back to my Hasselblad days! I focus the lens in Live View, the infinity stop seems to be right on, and the resulting images have stars that are points of light with no noticeable coma or aberration. There is noticeable vignetting in the corners shooting wide open, but against the black sky and with vignette control turned on in the camera, it does not adversely affect the image quality. I also have ISO noise reduction tuned on as well as long exposure noise reduction. For landscape images, the vignetting is mostly gone at 5.6 and smaller. My normal shooting mode for astro images is ISO 3200 - 6400 at 20 seconds. I have tried 25 and 30 second exposure times but those show a slight amount of star trailing. All I can say is if you are looking for a super wide-angle lens at a great price, get the Rokinon 14mm! Don't let the manual settings of using this lens scare you away, it will help you better understand exposure and how to make the equipment work for you!

Good wide angle for night skies.

Bought (2), returned (1). Works great on my Nikon D3300, lens and camera integrated well. Used for night photography that used manual settings and I?m happy with results. Since I?m using cropped sensor frame, actual focal length is 50% greater. However, lens was declared incompatible by my wife?s D3500.

Nice lens.

Excellent lens. Excellent value. Just remember it's a manual lens. The only inconvenience with the lens is that the f stop indicator is partially hidden by the camera on the Canon mount version. Nice thing is that the f stop adjustment ring can be switched from smooth to clickable. Also the distance can be locked in place.

Rokinon MF 14mm F2.8.

The SERIES II 14mm F2.8 delivers an ultra-wide 115.7° angle of view for full frame cameras with wide angle views of approximately 94°/90°/76° respectively for APS-C/ Canon APS-C/ MFT sensor models. Its sophisticated 14 element in ten group design utilizes seven specialized elements that include Hybrid Aspherical, HRI, Aspherical, and ED types plus UMC antireflective coatings for clear and vibrant images. The lens hood is built-in and a soft lens pouch is included.

Classics Evolved.

Inheriting the renowned Rokinon wide angle series, the Rokinon MF 14mm F2.8 MK2 is a ultra-wide-angle lens with enhanced usability. It incoperates focus lock and de-click function along with weather sealing and micro-patterned rubber ring. It is an ultra-wide-angle, manual-focus lens with excellent sharpness, even at its maximum aperture. The 115.7˚ wide angle of view is suitable for shooting landscapes, interiors, etc. and the lens hood effectively blocks unwanted light so you can shoot freely.

Focus Lock & De-click

Two completely new features of the new MF 14mm F2.8 MK2 are “Focus Lock” & “Declick”. Now you can ‘Lock’ the focus which improves reliability in astrophotography and time-lapse.
Also, ‘de-click’ function allows aperture for fine and smooth adjustment without clicking. Switch the silver ring from "Click" to "Free", then your aperture is now not stopped at every aperture as cine lenses do.

With the minimum focusing distance of 0.28m(0.92ft) and its angle of view of 115.7˚, allows users to create compositions that emphasize perspective and that are unique to wide-angle lenses.
