This is a great lens for this price point. The image is sharp, the build quality is solid and I highly recommend the whole Rokinon Cine DS line for anyone looking to get cinema lenses without breaking the bank.
Not suppose to be compared to higher end cinema prime lenses
Great options for beginners or people starting over and are on a budget. This prime 50 can really be used to achieve great looking images. Too often, people attempt to compare the Rokinon line to higher end cine glass. That should not be, or at least, higher end productions do not want to compromise on breathing, bokeh, coating, minimum focus distance etc. Use these lenses and move on if you decide to, but these lenses show great what's in front of them. The Rokinon 35mm T1.5 Cine AS UMC Lens for Canon EF was developed primarily for film and video applications. The cine version of Rokinon's 35mm lens features industry-standard gearing for the focus and aperture ring, and the aperture ring has been de-clicked for smooth iris pulls. The aperture and focus scales have also been relocated to the side of the lens, where it is easier for focus pullers to read them.
This lens is compatible with full-frame sensors and can also be used on APS-C-sized sensors, where the 35mm-equivalent focal length will be 56mm. The optical construction incorporates two high refractive index elements and one aspherical element to reduce chromatic aberrations and distortion to produce sharper imagery. Additionally, a UMC coating has been applied to lens elements to minimize lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich images.
