Review Summary
Powerful, mobile & efficient
The Rolleiflex 6008 AF is a high-tech tool designed for discriminating photographers who value both speed & comfort in their work as well as top-quality results. Its large & brilliant viewfinder image makes for precise framing, with relevant data displayed for full control.
The Rolleiflex 6008 AF is the world's 1st 6x6 medium format camera with a reliable fast AF system. It offers autofocusing with either 3 areas or a central spot. Exposure control is equally comfortable, with a choice of aperture-priority, shutter-priority or programmed AE.
Manual exposure compensation & the selection of shutter speeds or apertures give a wide margin of flexibility for critical contrast or lighting conditions. When it comes to flash, the Rolleiflex 6008 AF is particularly flexible, allowing TTL metering & control not only with shoe-mount flashes, but via preflash also with studio flash units.
Being a truly all-round camera, the 6008 AF offers the best of 2 worlds: It handles 6x6cm & 4.5x6cm roll film (both horizontal/vertical format) just as naturally as digital photography.
In the PhaseOne db20p, the Rolleiflex 6008 AF has found a congenial partner for digital imaging. The db20p has a resolution of 16 megapixels, 16 bits per RGB or CMYK color & the option of saving RAW files in addition to TIFF & JPEG files as well as embedding ICC profiles in the data. It blends in perfectly with the digital workflow.
The CCD chip of the camera can be set for daylight, tungsten, flash or light from fluorescent or HMI lamps, so it's equally well suited for studio portraiture as for architectural, landscape & industrial photography. Its sensitivity range from ISO 50 to ISO 800 covers from product shots with a wealth of detail to available light photography.
Like the Rolleiflex 6008 AF, the db20p is just as much at home in the studio as on location. Away from the studio, the high performance rechargeable batteries of the 2 units are major assets.
Each is good for 200 shots & 45 frames p.m. without AC power. The 2.2, 116,000-pixel color monitor at the back of the db20p makes a laptop on site superfluous. It is ideal for viewing the pictures taken & checking their exposure with the aid of a histogram showing over & underexposed portions of the image. CompactFlash cards are used to save the data.
The C1 Pro software supplied with the bundle guarantees a flexible & highly precise workflow fully supporting all phases of image editing. Intuitive operation & user-defined staple processing ensure high performance. 1 software, 1 editing process for perfect images. The versatile user-friendly PhaseOne software was developed to optimally satisfy requirements of modern professional photo studios allowing the images to be prepared for printing in no time at all. Correcting tonal values, gray balance, gradation curves, contrast, unsharp masking, cropping & sizing the image are quick & immediate.
