Review Summary

This review will encompass both the 1/8 CTO Rosco gel filter and 1/4 CTO Rosco gel filter. Admittedly, this is a non-standard use for these filters. The house I bought 4 years ago has two solar tubes or sun tunnels in the bathrooms. One is 14" and the other is 10". The light they produce is extremely bright. It's blinding and quite blue and headache inducing. Worse than standard fluorescent light and 100X as bright. And even worse. Since I'm talking to photographers, you'll know how that affects all the colors around it, including wall paint. I experimented with layers of filter inserted into the lens of the ceiling ring to get the desired warmer light. For the worst one (read: brightest) I used two layers of 1/4 Rosco Cinegel and one layer of the 1/8 Rosco Cinegel. For the smaller and therefore less bright opening I used two layers of the 1/4 Rosco Cinegel. The difference is dramatic. I wish I could include a photo but even trying to adjust exposures, photographing straight up into a still strong light is a challenge.

Bought this to reduce the brightness/whiteness of new LED puck lights recently installed in my kitchen. It worked perfectly. Just had to cut to the right size and insert the filter behind the glass lens. Lights now match other incandescent lighting in this room.

I order a sheet of CTO to change some daylight-colored LEDs to a softer/yellower shade. It worked. And it was very affordable. Thanks!

Came in its own tube. Was exactly what was expected.

Used this to change color of sun tunnel light from bluish to a natural light color. I liked the result.

Rosco light filter

Converts 5500½K daylight to 4900½K. Used when a very slight warming correction is desired. Deep-dyed base. (Mired shift = +20, Trans.= 92%, -0.1s).
Sun 85 & Neutral Density Filters are usually applied to windows for color correction and/or light intensity reduction. RoscoSun 85 is an amber filter that lowers the color temperature of daylight to balance with 3200½K sources. Rosco Neutral Density Filters reduce the level of exterior light and bring it within the exposure range of interior light levels. Two additional RoscoSun materials combine Sun 85 conversion with Neutral Density reduction. All materials are deep-dyed for optical clarity. Except as noted, all materials are extra wide 57" x 21' (145 cm x 6.7 m), sheets 20" x 24" (50 cm x 61 cm).
