Review Summary
The Roland Tri-Capture USB Audio Interface is a unique, compact audio interface optimized for personal and mobile recording, vocal and guitar recording and streaming-internet applications. With its mixer-like design and dedicated front-panel controls, Tri-Capture makes it easy to mix, control and monitor a variety of signals. Plug a microphone into the XLR input, an instrument into the 1/4-inch jack and a stereo instrument or device into the AUX input. The unique Rec Mode section provides instant selection of recording scenarios, including Loop Back for web streaming applications. Tri-Capture is full-featured yet portable and is USB bus powered for a clean, simple setup.
Hands-On Work Surface
More akin to a mixer than audio interface in its industrial design, Tri-Capture gives you hands-on controls for the most essential recording parameters. Three input paths are clearly labeled, with dedicated input knobs, peak indicators, phantom-power switches (for condenser microphones) and a Hi-Z input. You can record and play back at rates up to 24-bit/96 kHz for extra detail and clarity, great for capturing pristine vocals or acoustic instruments.
Flexible I/O
Tri-Capture is equipped to handle a wide variety of patching scenarios. Plug an instrument into the 1/4-inch inputs (Hi-Z switch), plug a microphone into the XLR mic input (phantom-power switch) and plug stereo instruments or devices into the AUX input. Balanced 1/4-inch TRS outputs and a stereo headphone jack are provided as well. Tri-Capture's USB terminal is your one-cable connection to your Mac or PC. The interface is USB bus powered so no separate AC connection is required. Tri-Capture is compatible with industry-standard ASIO 2.0 and CoreAudio drivers.
Triple REC MODE
Tri-Capture's unique REC MODE section lets you choose instantly between three recording scenarios. (1) When you set the recording mode to "Mic/Guitar", you can record microphone and guitar sounds onto individual tracks. (2) When using "All Input" mode, you can record microphone and/or guitar sound in combination with the stereo output of an audio device. (3) With "Loop Back", you can record microphone, guitar and/or an audio device's output externally to software by combining audio data played on the computer. This is optimized for web-streaming applications such as Ustream.
SONAR x1 LE Bundle
Every Tri-Capture package includes a complimentary copy of SONAR x1 LE software for PC, which is designed to work fluidly and seamlessly with the interface. Derived from Cakewalk's award-winning SONAR x1 DAW software, the LE version give you a powerful set of software tools for writing, recording, editing and mixing your music.
