Hoping mine was a fluke

I?ve always been a Radiopopper fan but I?m not thrilled with this particular product. It doesn?t fire every time but I?m guessing it has something to do with the poor connection at the hot shoe. The dial to tighten it is poor quality and it is either too tight and gets stuck or too loose and slides off. I also had to tape the battery door on.

The best triggering system not built-in to flash

This is hands-down the easiest triggering system to use that isn't built into flashes (like the canon 600 ex-rt). I wonder why their popularity has waned over the years, as the jrx (this unit's predecessor) was fantastic (with a few reliability issues). I just wish it were made a bit more durable.. otherwise it's the perfect system.

Very imited compatability

Can't control power of Yongnuo YN-565 for Canon (The most popular third party Canon flash) Can't control power of the Sunpak 120Jii - one of the most popular Canon bare-bulb flashes. Website says "Compatible with most popular Canon compatible flashes" ?? If an old Canon 50D can control the power of the Yongnuos, why can't Radiopopper. Sending the whole system back.

*Will be* a great product, but not today

These just came out a few months ago, and apparently they aren't flying off the shelves. I say this because when I received the two receivers I purchased together with the Jr2 transmitter, they did not offer wireless power control of my 430 EX Canon Speedlite (one of the marquee features of this product). After some correspondence with customer support, I was told that I needed to ship back the units so the firmware could be updated, which is another thing to be aware of. You can't update the firmware yourself, despite the fact that the units have a USB ports for doing that. The software they will be releasing for this isn't available and they won't say when it will be. At this time, the firmware can (apparently) only be updated by shipping the units back to them (at your own cost by the way). When you do ship them back, they may sit on their shelves for well over a week before getting serviced, although customer service will probably tell you (as they did to me) that it will be a "quick turnaround". From the time they received my returned units, it was 11 days before I could see that they were on their way back to me. FYI... I have been using (and loving) the RadioPopper Jrx series of transmitter and receivers for the last few years very happily. In my opinion, they're the best on the market in the cross section between features and price. It's just that these Jr2's are new and they obviously weren't ready for prime time - neither the product, or the company to support them. Buyer beware.

The best triggering system not built-in to flash

The RadioPopper Jr2....

The RadioPopper Jr2 is a complete ground up redesign of the RadioPopper Jrx. It is a huge improvement quality, usability and features. The Jr2 Transmitter supports 4 groups that can be instantly toggled on and o with buttons at the front of the unit.

The buttons are lit allowing the photographer to easily see what groups are toggled on and which groups are being adjusted. A single dial allows for stop accurate control of lights andstrobes. Groups can be adjusted one at a time or all at the same time.

Power can be adjusted in 1/3rd or 1/10th stop increments over 9 stops. The Jr2 Transmiter can act as a remote trigger by receiving remote triggering commands then ring the user's camera and lights.

The display is small enough to keep the Transmitter compact and low pro le while still large enough to clearly indicate the power levels of all lights. Thedisplay also includes a backlight that works automatically. The Jr2 Transmitter is reverse compatible with all existing RadioPopper products and gives stop accurate control of Alien Bees and speedlights when paired with the new Jr2 Receiver.

The Jr2 Transmitter also includes an exciting new feature, a memory function. The user can easily save up to 4 setups to be instantly recalled later. The savefunction remembers what groups are active and at what power levels. It can be used to save location setups or the most common setups in the user's studio.

The Jr2 Receiver includes a hot shoe directly on the unit and a light stand 1/4-20 on its bottom. The photographer no longer needs to use an RPCube or hot shoe connector to control power levels of speed lights. The new receiver now supports the Nikon SB-700 and 900 series of lights. The Jr2 Receiver can be purched with either a Canon style or Nikon style hot shoe.

The Jr2 Transmitter and Receiver operate using a pair of AAA batteries. The LCD displays indicate battery level so the user will never run out of power during an important shoot. Both units include a USB port for rmware upgrades and more features in the future.

Later this summer RadioPopper will be releasing 2 additional units that will allow the Jr2 Transmitter to stop-accurately control the output power of both Photogenic and Einstein lights.
