SKIP P : Will this work with the Sony a77 with a battery grip attached?THOMAS L : I use on Nikon D2X ,It work fineLEO S : Probably. I have a Nikon D7000 with battery grip and a 5D Mark II with grip and it works with them. One thing to consider is the Cam Engineering Reporter flash bracket. I like that thing. It does not add flash height but it does allow you to avoid wrong direction shadows at receptions.SKIP P : Which one did you purchase? Are you an Alpha user?JORGE V : Don't buy it's too bulky and heavy! I returned it and bought a setup from really right stuff.
Sandy H : What is the name of the part that the anti twist plate sits on top of on the pro rl 310 700 in this picture I am talking about the part with all the holes in it under the cork?

Great idea that could be better

I use this product for weddings, sports, and events. I like that this product allows me to easily flip my camera from horizontal to vertical and keeps the flash above my camera. It allows me use my flash and have it look more natural. This product could be better constructed. I have had a couple things like the handle grip slide off, and it is hard to get my camera on and off it. My camera has a extended battery grip and it doesn't fit on the plate right. I wish that it had a better weight distribution. When I have my camera strap around my neck it gets very uncomfortable.

Everything I expected

As a photographer quickly learning a new profession, I was plagued by shadows when shooting team photos when a colleague of mine turned me on to this device. Since I shoot alot of team Portrait photos, I need to ensure the flash remains centered above the camera reducing shadows and the stroboframe does just that. While I read a number of reviews on this - I have yet to witness or experience any challenges with it.

Very Nice Bracket

Just got this bracket, and have used it for a couple senior photo shoots. It worked very well. It rotates from horizontal to portrait very easily. It is heavy with my Pentax K20D and Flash mounted, but is well worth putting forth some extra muscle. I like the fact that the flash will lift so high above the camera. If you are buying, definitely buy the anti twist plate for your specific camera. However, I did buy the anti twist for the pentax and the holes did not line up properly under the attachment. My husband did some adjustments for me and it works great now. It was not with the twist plate, but with the bracket. The larger hole on the bracket plate was further back and wouldn't align with the anti twist plate. Overall, I like it. It will get many years of use.

Great Product - Exactly as advertised

Have an older medium-format Stroboframe bracket and this one is even better. Everything quickly at hand and it works great. The ability to raise the light height in using with different focal length lenses is a great feature. Excellent product

Poorly engineered

This contraption seems to have been engineered and constructed like a turn-of-the-century farm implement. It's actually funny to behold. For some odd reason the manufacturor has seen fit to use plastic nuts that cannot be tightened and knobs that spin on their spindle and cannot be loosened. When you get your $3500 worth of camera, flash and cords all screwed on to this thing it give you the same sense of security you'd get riding a lawn chair tied to weather balloon. You simply cannot get everything tightened up. Camera & flash will have to be constantly straightened during extended use. It's a toy.

Disappointed in product.

I use a Nikon D2X. The camera never quite fit right in the vertical position -- I had to remove the foam padding on the handle to get it to fit. It did fit at the highest "stage" setting, but then the camera was always wiggly and unbalanced, unstable. It should work better with a smaller camera -- if you can find a way to keep the plastic nuts tight. They loosen very frequently and then the camera shakes back and forth. Not good for me.

It's a good Bracket

I really like the bracket overall. The one thing I think could be better is the locking device. There is some play in the camera when locked in the horizontal position.

Excellent and Durable.

You will get a workout with your arms with this bracket, at least til you get used to it! Other than that, this is one of the best investments I have ever made.

Flexibility for Flash and Camera

Met advertising expectations. Flexible solution to variable lighting at reception events. I would like for the fold out stability leg used to balance the system when you set it down on a surface to change out batteries or a flash card to be a little longer - tips over easily.

PRO-RL AT WORK

USE THIS RIG FOR WEDDINGS CHRISTENINGS ETC. FOR GREAT FLASH DISTRIBUTION IT IS BRILLIANT, THROWING THE FLASH DOWNWARDS CREATING A SHADOW BEHIND AND LOW ON THE SUBJECT, WHICH IS NOT AT ALL DISTRACTING IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS. MUCH BETTER THAN A SIDE FLASH BRACKET REGARDING SHADOWS, ESPECIALLY WHEN SIDE FLASH BRACKET HAS TO BE TURNED TO PORTRAIT MODE.I LOVE THE FACT THAT WHETHER YOU WANT A LANDSCAPE MODE SHOT AND WANT TO CHANGE TO PORTRAIT MODE, ITS A 1 SECOND JOB TO TURN THE CAMERA ON A 45 DEGREE ANGLE AND STILL GET THE FLASH ITSELF TO BE DIRECTLY ABOVE THE CAMERA AND ACHIEVE FANTASTIC RESULTS. THIS RIG IS FANTASTIC. THE ONLY DOWNSIDE TO THIS RIG IS THE FACT THAT AS I AM RIGHT HANDED, LIKE MOST PEOPLE, I HOLD THE BRACKET HANDLE WITH MY LEFT HAND AND USE MY RIGHT HAND TO ZOOM, CHANGE CONTROLS ETC. THE SIDE OF THE BRACKET IS QUITE AT THE FRONT, PARRALEL TO THE LENS MORE AND NOT THE CAMERA BODY, IT CAN BE DIFFICULT AND AWKWARD TO ZOOM AND ACCESS LENS CONTROL BUTTONS, AS THE SIDE OF THE BRACKET ALWAYS SEEMS TO BE IN THE WAY. THATS FOR A 5D WITH 24-105 IS LENS.BUT THATS THE ONLY COMPLAINT. ITS EASY TO HOLD, MAKES THE CAMERA QUITE HEAVY BUT SURPRISINGLY EASY TO HOLD. GET ONE.....THATS WHAT I SAY.

The Pro-RL is loaded with advanced features and represents a major advance in handling speed and ease of use. It's supported comfortably with your left hand, leaving your right hand free to operate all camera and bracket controls. It is the best bracket to use with a tripod and the use of a cable release is not required.

What's in the box:

  • 1/4"-20 mounting knobs for camera and flash
  • cork base pad
