This innovative camera employs the same Microlensed, Blue Enhanced, Full Frame KAF-0402ME CCD as the renowned ST-7XME camera, boasting an array of 765 x 510 pixels at 9 microns square.
The ST-402ME utilizes the same advanced technology that powers the high quantum efficiency of the KAF-3200ME CCD, delivering an impressive peak QE of nearly 85%. This feature ensures that no detail is lost, even in dimly lit environments, making it a formidable contender in its class for capturing faint details.
Equipped with new USB 2.0 electronics, a full frame download on the ST-402ME takes less than a second, while its focus mode updates the computer screen approximately twice per second. Its compact size and lightweight design make it incredibly user-friendly and easy to set up, perfect for on-the-go photography and videography.
The ST-402ME also features a custom internal filter wheel and shutter, allowing for automatic dark frames and tri-color image capture. The low noise and extraordinary QE of the KAF-0402ME CCD make this camera one of the most sensitive CCD cameras available, ensuring high-quality image capture.
This single sensor camera is designed with an internal relay that allows it to autoguide almost any commercial telescope with an autoguider port. It can also control an external Relay Adapter Box for older or unusual telescope drives that require electrical isolation from the autoguider.
Like the ST-237A, the ST-402ME uses a monochrome CCD with an optional internal filter wheel and custom filters, enabling both high sensitivity B&W imaging and RGB/LRGB color imaging with the same camera. The CCD is strategically centered in the camera body and is correctly spaced for Celestron telescopes with Fastar or Hyperstar optics.
The camera body is constructed from durable, black hard anodized aluminum, and features single stage, regulated, thermoelectric cooling with fan assist. This enhanced cooling system ensures optimal performance, even in demanding conditions.
