Built in collaboration with Simon Gallup, this Schecter custom bass was made to embody the sound that fans associate with The Cure. Made with the same care and attention to detail as every instrument Schecter puts out, this bass features carefully-selected tonewoods and high-end components worthy of Gallup himself.
Construction & Build
The build starts with a solid mahogany body, shaped with a raised center. The booming tones you can get out of a mahogany body are second to none, and the neck adds to the rich sound with a maple-walnut ply construction. This provides a very stiff and solid playing feel, maintaining consistency even when it's heavily used. The stiffness of the neck and solidity of a neck-thru build can also eliminate most, if not all, dead spots on the fretboard, giving a great clear sound up and down the scale.
Components & Hardware
The standout components on this bass are certainly the classic-looking (and classic-sounding) EMG TBHZ pickups. These large and powerful pickups, affectionately known as "soapbars" back when they were introduced, do an excellent job of replicating the growling 70s sound you'd expect from a Gallup signature instrument. Other noteworthy hardware, like the Schecter precision tuners, Tune-O-Matic bridge and tailpiece, and on-body controls for volume and tone round out a package that begs to be heard as much as it begs to be seen.
