Review Summary
Built with carefully-selected tonewoods and high-end componentry, Schecter's Avenger is a stunning number. Easy on both the eyes and ears, this guitar delivers a deep, dark tonality with rich natural projection and the electronics to back it up.
Construction & Build
The solid body and three-piece set neck are shaped from mahogany, a top choice among guitar builders for its natural resonance and solidity. A flamed maple top layer is added to the body, mainly for aesthetic purposes, but it doesn't hurt the guitar's tonality at all; maple is an exceptionally stiff and resilient wood that aids in sound projection from the arched top. The body cutaways allow for phenomenal access to the upper end of the scale and give the guitar a meant-to-be-played feeling.
Components & Hardware
Schecter's own USA Pasadena pickups harness the output of this excellent build, channeling it through a passive internal system. These pickups are capable of bright, clean sustain and can be dialed in with on-body controls to give you a mellow humming sound or a wiry twang (or any combination thereof). Those controls at your fingertips include a volume knob, a push-pull tone switch, and three-way tone control to focus output on one or both of the humbuckers. Other noteworthy parts include the TonePros T3BT bridge and string-thru-body tail, Schecter's own precision locking tuners, and chrome Grip Tip Speed Knobs. An Ernie Ball compensated nut rounds out the package, allowing for consistent string action and comfortable playing all up and down the compound-radius ebony fretboard.
