The Schoeps ORTF Surround Set features the ORTF surround recording method that is designed for pickup of surround ambience. This microphone arrangement and its sonic characteristics offer good 360deg. imaging and a natural-sounding spatial impression. This is achieved with a high degree of signal separation among channels, based both on arrival-time differences and level differences. The ORTF SURROUND SET features 2 types of sets; indoor and outdoor. The rectangular ORTF Surround arrangement has been designed to be mounted conveniently in a single elastic suspension and to share a single windscreen. Its pickup regions are correctly apportioned through a careful choice of angles and distances among the microphones.

The distances and angles are chosen in such a way that each of the 4 stereo pairs provides a 90deg. recording angle, thus adding up to smooth 360deg. imaging. The WSC ORTF Surround (included) provides a plug and play solution for surround ambience. When working indoors, the ORTF Surround Indoor Set is used without windscreen. If moderate wind protection is required, then a SCHOEPS SCB5DG foam windscreen can be separately placed over each microphone.
