I was amazed to find that Sachtler made a tripod in this price range. The purchase was a "no brainer". Both items are well constructed all the way around. Tripod is solid and head is incredibly smooth. Both bags are very well made and heavy-duty. Only complaint is that there could be some more inserts inside the camera bag. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a tripod in this price range even if it's a little more than what you plan to spend (like it was for me). It's worth the money... never skimp on the sticks!

I use this tripod for event videography and am really happy with the smoothness of the head and generally with the bulk and build of the tripod. Sure, there aren't as many metal parts as you might want to expect from a solid set of sticks, but that's where the outrageously reasonable price comes in, right?

I would rate this similar to Manfrotto at the same price point. It is a little light weight and I think Manfrotto is probably a more durable design in general at this price level. I have heard Sachtler is top end and I wanted to try to see the difference between Manfrotto and at this level there is not much. It works as expected it just feels cheaper and more light weight than my other gear at this same cost point. I bought it for "run and gun" to use with DSLR for video and still photography.

I love the Ace M for its durability, versatility, user friendliness and price point. The Ace L which came out this year is even better, featuring a higher payload, the button that lights the balance bubble, and the ACE L - TT has the telescopic legs which I love. I now own both.

I searched to find a tripod that would yield professional results with my Canon XA10. Tripods traditionally handle heavier camera set-ups and fail to properly counterbalance smaller cameras. A mismatch creates awkward panning and tilts. The Ace M is specifically designed for set-ups up to 8lbs. Pans, tilts, combo moves are smooth as glass without rollback at the end of the move. That's what a pro fluid head tripod is all about. I also had an issue with the first unit shipped to me. Sachtler's customer service was outstanding and lightning quick. Not only is it a great tripod for the money, but it's built by a company that takes tremendous pride in their products. Thanks, Sachtler.

This is a great little product. Just a smaller verion of what Commercial, Documentary and Sports professionals use. I cannot believe you can buy this kind of technology for this price. I tried a cheaper tripod advertising the same features and the thing was broken in shipping. Tilt and pan drag adjustments are better than I expected. It is a comfort to know the thing will not colapse while resetting lights demonstrating action for talent.

The Sachtler 1001 System Ace M MS Head is a full tripod system for videographers who use HDSLR cameras and smaller camcorders. Whether you're doing documentaries, ENG, weddings, corporate videos, or any other type of projects with a smaller camera, the Ace system matches your needs, enabling broadcast-style performance with lightweight components. With its light weight, compact size and mid-level spreader, this system is perfect for projects that involve multiple setup changes on unpredictable surfaces.
With a payload up to 8.8 lb, the Ace fluid head features five steps of counterbalance as well as a plate that features a 4.1" range of adjustment, so you can balance your small camera to a very precise degree. Designed by Sachtler engineers for the Ace head, the SA drag system enables smooth, precise panning and tilting via the head's pan bar, with three grades of drag in both the horizontal and vertical dimensions, plus the option of zero drag. The head's tilt range is +90deg. to -75deg. .
The tripod mounts the head via its 75mm bowl. With the Ace head attached, the two-stage aluminum model reaches a maximum height of 66.5" for a comfortable working height for almost all users. Also included is a mid-level which adds to the stability of the system on any surface, indoors or out.
