I really like the design of this unit it sits flat and for what I use it for it's fast enough for me. I got a real good price. It's a joy to have so I don't load up my hard drive on my computer.

This hard drive continues to crash my MacBook Pro especially while using Lightroom and other heavy usage. I wouldnt suggest this drive if this is the type of work you do.

Expensive and only used to backup media files-- the drive failed in less than a year.

DO NOT BUY THIS HARD DRIVE!!!! They are the absolute worst. You WILL lose all of your data 100% guaranteed. Our production company has used G-Drives for 10+ years and not a single one failed in all of that time. As soon as SanDisk bought them out, 2 out of the 4 we purchased failed. The first one failed before we even used it and we had to send it back. The second one failed randomly out of nowhere and we lost our project file. Fortunately, all of our footage was backed up, but we hadn't backed up the project file yet because we have never needed to do that on a daily basis. The hard drive was sitting on my desk, working in the morning, had ejected it and worked off a different drive for the day, and then plugged it back in at the end of the day like normal and it was a goner. It wasn't hit or dropped, nothing. It wasn't spinning or showing up anymore. These are HORRIBLE. I already had a bad feeling about these new SanDisk drives from the moment we got them, they feel worse and they don't run as well and they make strange noises randomly. I might as well also add that they are way uglier than the original G-Drives as well. Sad to have G-Drives which worked for 10+ years to have to now switch to another company because of SanDisk's incompetence. Why would you change something that already was working perfectly? Seems like one big scam. I'll never buy from this company ever again. Why would you want to work off of a drive that can fail at any moment for no reason, and you lose an entire day's worth of work? Big L for SanDisk. And before SanDisk replies with their response of "Oh we have the best technology actually. You should submit a support ticket," we did contact customer support and it was hands down the worst I have ever witnessed in all of my life. This guy asked the most useless questions and literally even wanted a screenshot of a totally separate working drive that was unrelated, and then I kid you not, he legit asked, "How important is your data to you?" Obviously my data is important, guy. Then he said, "It seems we have done all the troubleshooting we can do. The hard drive seems to be non-functional" after doing absolutely zero troubleshooting. He then proceeded to say we can get a new hard drive but we have to send back the old one, and if we don't send it back first it's a charge of $20 extra. Like hello, we need the data still....It is infuriating losing an entire day's worth of work, but it is even more infuriating when it happens for no reason and there is no solution or support from the company whose fault it is. Thanks for absolutely nothing, SanDisk. Bring back the original G-Drives.

I'm here yet again hoping I can convince you not to buy these drives. When these drives fail, WD does nothing to acknowledge the massive issue that your data is gone. Sure they'll send me $300 to replace a drive, but nothing can be done for the video projects that represent several clients most recent projects (some still in the works) unless I decide to pay a data recovery company. I don't know why this drive is still for sale. When this many reviewers are saying they break, you'd think they'd fix their product, but no. I had one fail last year, so now I double back up everything which is wildly expensive. And now a client gave me footage to use on a project on one of these and sure enough, after a few weeks of it working fine, it now won't mount, isn't recognized in Disk Utility, and WD says it's broken.

Really want to love this drive - so much so that we bought two. BOTH drives constantly fail - and although neither has had a hard crash, the constant "self ejection" renders them useless for me as a video editor.

Doesn't WD get tired of ignoring the issues associated with the poor quality of their products? Word is out.

Easy to format in windows they even give you detailed instructions on how to do so. It's using a ultrastar enterprise hard drive. I'm using this for my Plex server. I'm using 10 18gb ultrastar enterprise drives in my server in raidz and nvr from ubiquiti and never had an issue yet. Easy setup for Mac and windows very reliable. But I never put all my eggs into one basket. When one fails then I update how my customer service experience. Hopefully it's excellent. It has always been in the past. Also about all the bad reviews I think are mostly people that don't know what they're doing and need a place to vent. It's sad that people get gratification by leaving bad reviews. In my experience, they probably didn't know what they were doing, or just relied on a single drive. If a Files important to me, I have it on three different medias.

This product is exceptionally poor. I would rate as ) stars. After using G-drives for personal and biomedical research use (at least $20,000 in purchases over the years), I bought this new drive. This drive mounts and unmounts poorly, gets corrupted easily, does not perform to specs, and repeatedly crashes. I tried working with WD to replace with something different even to pay the diffrerence in cost or do anything to get a different drive such as the new Project G-drive (since so many people find the SanDisk Professional G-Drive has problems), but they will not work with me. After having to reformat this drive multiple times and find a way to store data in the interim and then put it back, I will not take the chance on using the same drive. WD will not work with me. So stay away from this drive and WD.

Bought two of 18TB back in August 2023, one failed on me in the beginning of October 2023. Called the customer service and see what they can do. Did every protocol, and concluded that it's dead and need to be replace. They told me to send it to their third party data recovery, (which is not free at all), and they said it has a limited warranty that doesn't include a free data recovery. So I decided to start asking for their manager and told them that this is their fault that their product failed on me and they need to either give me a free data recovery and a new free hard drive, because it wasn't my fault two months in and it failed on me. They did send me an apology and told me that this is a one time use. and will not be able to use on my second drive if it do failed.

I had two fail in one year. I lost tons of critical data and they wanted to charge me for data recovery.

Avoid this drive for anything other than back up work. The drive is very noisy, and very slow. This drive is constantly running and I have never had a drive make so much noise. This would be fine to use as a back up but I am going to be replacing this drive with another brand. Western Digital has taken what was a great brand G-Drive and ruined the value. I will not purchase another G-Drive.

Ordered two drives, the first one wouldn't even mount or be read, and we tried 7 different Macs The second drive failed after 4 days of use. About 300gbs was loaded onto it and the drive was probably used for a total of 6 hours. Terrible. Don't phase out the old type of drive until these are rock solid.

I bought the 22TB drive to transfer all my files from several different hard drives and SSDs as a backup. 4 days after backing almost everything up (it had 6TB left), it caused my imac to continuously restart. Plugged it into my macbook and the same thing happened so I know it's the drive. Glad I didn't get this to be my main backup drive. I'm returning this but now I have tons of files on this thing that I can't even erase before returning it. Hopefully no one can access that info because it's an identity theft risk.

Western digital wont post my honest review or the truth of the experience. Drive lasted 5 days of constant sleep and slow speeds before it became unreadable and lost all data. WD kept my RMA for 4 weeks before I called and they told me we do not have this drive we will send you a smaller, non "pro" version.

I have over 250tb of G Drives. My video production company runs on them. This refresh is not a welcome update. This is the first WD drive I've had that failed and their warranty replacement process is a joke. So now they have my drive, my $650, and are coming up with every excuse to delay sending me a new one. G Drive was an industry trusted brand and I'm afraid San Disk Extreme ruined it. They need to get their act together if they want to keep working with professionals but for now I'm worried and double backing up everything in case another one of these fails.

I have 5 G drives that I have purchased over the last couple of years to back up video. They have all worked flawlessly. The newest drive is fine enough but for some reason will no longer power my MacBook Pro thru the USB 2.0.... Why folks feel compelled to redesign a great product I don't understand. Will be back to the drawing board for the next purchase.

Fairly noisy compared to competitors. Neither fast nor slow, does the job. Wish it had an extra port on the back for daisy chaining.
