I play one to four shows each week as a soloist or as part of a duo. For decades I used top brand dynamic mics. Past advice I had received about condenser mics was always from old school folks, like me, whose experience was based on older condenser mic technology. After seeing so many pros in big acts using condenser mics I thought I should give them a try. As it turns out, the old school advice was wrong. This mic actually has fewer feedback issues as long as you position the monitors more to the side and not directly behind the mic. This mic also blocks side noise far better. It also seems just as rugged as the highly touted traditional dynamic mics. But the most impressive feature of this super-cardiod condenser mic is the improvement in the sound. It presents all the nuances of your voice with a wonderful clarity. An added benefit is that that the super-cardiod pattern provides distinct clarity that is noticeable even when your mouth is several inches from the mic. That may not seem valuable until you are singing in a range where your voice is not particularly powerful and you bear down on the mic to gain some volume. The other surprise that comes with that super-cardiod pattern is when you see photos taken while you are singing and your entire face is often showing, unlike with a dynamic mic where photos usually looks like you are eating the mic. The audience can see the part of your facial expression created by your mouth. That is not a big deal but in performing, every little positive adds to the overall performance quality. I have used a variety of excellent dynamic mics over my decades as a lead vocalist. Quite a few years ago I was at a concert and saw the lead vocalist using an e865s. The sound was stunning. I saved up some money and bought one. Best investment I ever made. It instantly gave my voice more presence. It solved some feedback issues. It is an amazing mic. I read a lot of reviews that say vocal mics are as distinctive as each person's voice. There is some truth there but overall, you can be fairly sure the e865 will be an amazing upgrade over ANY dynamic mic. I have a friend who bought a pricey Heil dynamic. I used it and it was nice but my Sennheiser e865 just blows away the Heil.
