Works as it should. But if you don't know what you're doing, a word of caution, if you're using a low output dynamic mic, your iPhone or laptop most likely will want quite a bit of amplification prior to being input. I have a professional Sennheiser headset that I wanted to use with my work laptop that would accept a TRRS 3.5mm jack. Right now, I have an ART Studio V3 Tube amplifying the mic, bit alone, it's near it's limit (I tested first with the iPhone). A Cloudlifter and then the ART is probably about right. Oddly enough, the SEnnheiser headset boom mic has about the same sensitivity as a Shure SM7B... so if you really wanted to go professional!

Handy little adapter for use with iPhone (as long as ii has TRRS connector!) for connecting a pro XLR mic and headset. Have used several times and it does what it's supposed to do.
