I got this cable to feed audio from a Tascam DR-44WL to the mic input of a Nikon D610 DSLR.  The cable reduces the line-level output of the Tascam to a level that the mic preamp of the Nikon can handle without distortion, assuming that the audio levels are set in the Nikon appropriately.  This setup allows me to use higher-quality microphones when desired, feeding them into the XLR connectors and preamps of the Tascam.  Alternatively, if I wish to record the audio into the Tascam and synch it in post with the camera audio, I also have decent camera reference audio to make the job a bit easier.

Bought this to send audio from my Zoom recorder headphone jack into my Panasonic GH4.  Works beautifully.
