Worth the money

I bought this lens for landscape photography so not being fast is absolutely not an issue--nobody shoots landscape open wide. Tested it last weekend and I'm totally impressed with the wide view and definitely no complaints on performance. This is my second Sigma lens (the other is the 50mm 2.8 prime). I did a lot of research before settling on this.

Perfect for landscapes

Not a fast lens but who shoots f2.8 for landscapes? Perfect for me.

Nice extra wide angle lens for the money

Over the past few months, I have encountered several situations where I needed a wider angle lens than my basic 18-55 lens. In looking at the available lenses, including reviews, this lens looked like a very good lens, in terms of "bang for the buck". I've had it for a couple of weeks now, and have used it exclusively on several walking trips. I've not been disappointed. You have to be careful with image distortion at the very wide end (typical of very wide angles). So far, I haven't experienced any serious vignetting, but I tend not to shoot with the lens wide open most of the time. It does create some interesting angle distortion, but again this is typical of the wide angle. This lens isn't quite as fast as the newer Sigma lens, but so far, I haven't found that to be an issue. The lens appears to be well made, and works nicely with my Pentax camera, and at less than half the price of the comparable Pentax 12-24 lens. The autofocus speed has not been a problem, since most objects I shoot with this lens aren't moving very fast (or at all!)

Nice lens

It's a great lens as it takes filters. on the A-77 it's still fairly wide, I returned it and got the 8-16mm as it is noticeably wider, but no filter. On the A-77 @ 1.82+/- crop.

Very nice super wide angle zoom lens

I bought this to get the super-wide angle landscape shots I've always dreamed of getting but not had the equipment for. I am very happy with this lens. I like the colors, speed and sharpness I have been able to get so far. Right now I only have a UV filter on it and need to get a decent polarizer to really test out sunny high elevation skies.

Love it

I love this lens. Crisp, sharp photos; professional lens case. I love the perspective you get shooting wide. Took it with me to Asia, great pics!

Beware of defective copies

Got this lens to use with Pentax K01. The lens looks and feels expensive. At f4, the sharpness is not usable (You won't carry a DSLR for that kind of image). I think the sharpness is best at between f5.6 and f8. Even at that range, I still find it too soft for landscape photo. The distortion is not much of a problem at 10mm. There's a lot of people saying that they received defective copies of this lens. I'm not sure if mine is. I'm used to Micro43 with 20mm f1.7 pancake lens. This Sigma lens is just as sharp as the 20mm at wide open at the very best.

im happy with my purchase

I was searching like 1 month for decent wide angle lens.I was struggling between tokina 11-16mm and sigma 10-20mm but i end up with sigma. I'm not a professional photographer so i didn't want to spend a lot of money for my lens and this i a best choice for me.To fit my budget and to be happy with purchase at same time. Lens is very good quality taking a very nice photos .Go with sigma and don't worry.

I wish I had purchased this lens sooner

This lens is great with tolerable distortion. Doesn't work well with on-board camera flash due to its size. I was amazed to receive the lens in Langley BC Canada the day after ordering it.

Worth the money for a 4-5.6

I use it mainly for abstract things or to cover large areas to view. Decent over all.

Sigma 10-20mm 4-5.5 EX DC

Just took a delivery of my new lens, [...] Immediately mounted the lens on and took few shots around the house.Took me a month to decide on the right lens, comparing, reading reviews which had me skeptic. Finally I took the plunge ordered the lense and glad I did it. Lens is going to be used primarily for Architectural / Real Estate / Landscape, so don't need a fast lens for that, since it's going to be on a tripod anyway. For the reviewers that say their filter didn't fit, that had me also worried. My filter and the hood fit together perfectly fine, so must be user error on the other side..Go get the lens and stop procrastinating.

Excelent price, well made w.a. lens.

I used this lens with my recently purchased Pentax K-X, and I tested it in my back and front yards with flowers and scenery from our home. The K-X and this lens work well together, and Adorama gave me an excellent price. A few years ago I owned the equivelant Pentax lens, and it is indeed a bit smaller and lighter than the Sigma lens. However, in terms of performance the two lenses are equal. I own many Tamerons and Sigmas for for both Nikon and Pentax. Sigma makes affordable, well constructed lenses, and the 10 to 20 is no exception.[...]

Nice wide angle

I like this lens a lot. Man is it wide! It is also a big lens. But considering what it does, this is no surprise. Distortion is kept low, and my copy is reasonably sharp... best when stopped down to f8-11. I would have liked it to be a tad sharper overall, but it is certainly usable. I really like how I can get away with some rather low shutter speeds hand held due to it being so wide, and this will certainly give you a perspective like few other lenses. All at a price that is less than half of a Pentax 12-24. I have heard about quality issues with some copies of this, but if you get a good copy you will not be disappointed.

BEAUTIFUL LENSE

The Sigma 10-20mm.f/4-5.6 is a quality piece from the black finish to the sharp optics and the smooth operation. Focus ring is smooth but firm. Comes with a very well padded lense case. Some tech. reviews rate the sharpness so-so but in practical use I find it very sharp. The sweet spot is f8 to f11. Very pleased with my purchase. Barrel is metal construction.

Super Lens

I was really amazed at how well this lens worked. In spite of the fact that it is extremely wide angle, there is no noticeable barrel distortion. Of course there is perspective exaggeration, but that is a mathematical fact of wide angle photography. The image is very sharp throughout the entire frame. It is not often that a lens this wide is needed, but when you just can't get back far enough, this lens solves the problem for you.

Much more than Anticipated

Extremely pleased with all results to date. Size is a "little bulky" but weight is fine. Looking forward to more use in the future!!

This lens is a lot of fun

This is my first wide angle lens and I am having lots of fun from 180 degree landscapes to funky close-ups. For a beginner this is great and not too expensive for my Sony Alpha 200.

Good Wide Angle Zoom

Great alternative in terms of price from the Pentax 12-24mm. Consistent output with some disortion and softness in the corners especially on the 10mm end but that is to be expected. Vignetting is more evident with larger apetures. Well constructed and relatively fast focus for a third party lens.

Fun lens!

I bought this lens for a recent trip to Utah and Arizona for landscape shots. This is a fun WIDE lens. At 10mm (15mm eq on my Sony A300) the edges of the frame are soft, but not overly so. When using this lens at 10mm with a subject in close range there is some noticeable distortion. At first, I was not pleased, however, shortly realized that this distortion adds a certain fun factor to some of the images. If the distortion is bothersome, simply zoom out to about 14mm (21 mm eq) and the distortion is gone. This is not a fast lens at f/4, but it is not terrible. Lens comes with a nice carry pouch/bag and both lens caps. For what this lens does in this price range, this is a fun lens to have!

amazing glass

I am so impressed with what Sigma has managed to do with this lens. For such a wide angle, this has remarkably little distortion. I got this to shoot architectural interiors, and having vertical lines stay straight is important. The lens has to be stopped down for sharpness and DOF, so it's a very slow lens. The damping on the zoom and the solid construction are a real plus.

"Extreme wide angle lens"

I have Sigma's 12-24 lens which is great but is both big and heavy. This lens is even wider angle and is small and light weight. It fits easily in a small gadget bag and doesn't weigh you down. Image quality is excellent and should please all but the most nit-picky. It also appears to be very well built. I couldn't be happier.

Super wide!!

Super sharp. Slight vignetting at 10mm especially if you use a filter. 2 filters? -- a no-no. But play anyway. Super wides are not distortion free. This one achieves miracles for the price. Doesn't add a lot of weight to bag. I carry 10-20mm, 18--55mm, 70-300mm plus 1.6X extender for general outdoor (vacation) shooting. Comes to 10 lbs with all accessories. (Your mileage may vary)

Great Wide Angle

The field of view has to be seen to be believed. Must be conscious of extraneous stuff at the edge of the scene you wouldn't normally consider, even at 16mm. Very little distortion but there is some perspective change to keep in mind. Very sharp.

Execellent build and image quality

I will use this for outdoor scenic photos, where getting the foreground into the photo as well as a big view is important. Even at it's widest setting, there is very little distortion. The image is very sharp. The zoom action was a little stiff out of the box, but improved with use.

Good Lens, Would Buy Again

Purchased for a trip to south-east Utah. Performed very well (it can't make the guy behind the camera a good photographer--darn the luck). There is some light falloff around the edges and if you use P series filters the polarizer will cause vignetting (not a real big surprise) until you get out to ~12mm. I didn't really have a problem with the lens cap (like some) because I generally put a filter frame or filter ring cap on--but a cap with inner release tabs would be nicer.
