Questions & Answers

Shopper : Is this lense good for portraits on a canon rebel t5?RENEE W : This lens is for a full frame camera and the Canon Rebel t5 is a crop sensor camera. I wouldn't recommend using this particular lens on your camera.NORMAN A : It is a pretty sharp medium telephoto with reasonably good image stabilization and good rendering. On a T5, the effective focal length is 168mm, which is on the long end for portraits, but within what is considered the normal range of portrait focal lengths. I used it on a 70D and a 6D, I've never used it on a Rebel. I never had any problems with focus accuracy or consistency, but that is a potential area of concern. I no longer have this lens. I gave it to a nephew about a year ago and replaced it with a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 IS USM macro.GEORGE Q : It is a great lens on any Canon. It is very sharp and fast to allow for blurred backgrounds.DARRELL B M : Probably a bit much for portraits @ 105mm. It focuses well at distance however but it's strong suit is shooting at around 2 feet distance.
ED S : I understand the mounting flange on this lens is PLASTIC ! Did anyone encounter any problems at a later point? Ed.GEORGE C : I am now looking at my lens and find it to be a bright shinny metal flange. No, I have not had any problems with this lens. It is equally superior to the Canon and at a much lower price. great buy!TONY T : Hello Ed, I purchased my lens in Sep of 2012 and have not had any problems with the mounting flange. The AF is not as fast as my Tamron 18-250, but that is not a problem. I get great macro images and use MF most of the time anyway.STEVE C : I have been taking it into the field for wedding macro shots. I have not had a problem and I am happy with the lens. Sometimes when time allows, I take it in the backyard and shoot flowers. No problem.
CHUCK A : In terms of image quality how does this lens stand up against the Canon 100mm L series lens?TONY T : Hello, I have not used a Canon 100mm L series lens. However, the Sigma 105mm is a very good lens. This is a very sharp lens [but is my only prime lens]. The auto focus can be a little slow at times. I usually use this lens for macro photography so I manually focus anyway. Great to use at the botanical garden.STEVE C : I am very pleased with the quality but can not answer because I have not shot the Canon macro.LORI P : I rented the Canon L for about 2 weeks on 2 different occasions. I honestly can not tell the difference between the two when it comes to image quality. I have printed images with both lenses. I actually found the focusing capabilty in low light situations to be faster with the Sigma. I am so happy I went with the Sigma!JAY Y : Having owned both the image quality and sharpness is extremely close to each other. The sigma 105mm seems slightly sharper at lower apertures and less chromatic aberration but a bit more vignetting. The OS however is a bit loud compared to canon 100L IS.

Great lens!

This lens has been wonderful so far! Before purchasing, I did a fair amount of research about which macro lens to get, and this seemed to be the all-around winner in terms of affordability and quality. I use it while hiking, and it does a great job of getting those beautiful close-up shots of flowers, plants, insects, etc. The focus is always incredibly sharp. I haven't been disappointed. A downside is that it is quite heavy, especially for hiking, but that's to be expected. It was well-packaged in its own case, and included 2 lens hoods.

Sigma 105mm Macro. Outstanding Lense in every way.

Sigma build and feel. Solid, works to perfection, great quality lenses. I own three Sigma lenses and the next one I buy will be Sigma. Their workmanship and customer service is next to without a doubt the best of any I have encountered.

From Mushrooms to Headshots

I used this lens for everything from photographing mushrooms and insects to fashion models and headshots. Excellent image quality, though a little heavy. It's fast at 2.8, though if you are using it for headshots or macro, you don't need that kind of speed. Could be an F4 or 5.6 and would still be amazing. I dropped this lens out of a bag one time and Adorama had it fixed with my VIP 360 account and it worked every bit as good as it did the day I got it.

Fantastic lens! Been wanting it for a long time....

I've been looking at this lens for quite a while. Then when Adorama had it on sale, I couldn't pass it up! What a well made, sturdy, macro lens from Sigma. This is one of several Sigma lenses I own. I have a Nikon D750.

Good lens and saves a few $$$

Does a great job and images look great. Does it hunt a little bit? A little here and there. But that?s expected when going 1:1 brings you in on some very weird things. However, in almost all circumstances, I am in manual focus mode anyway.

Learning Experience for Newbie

It is a really nice lens and takes very clear pictures. I am a newbie and just started using manual settings rather than automatic. I have been able to blur background on portraits and pet photos. I have yet to take a really great macro shot. it is going to be a learning experience.

This is one of the best lenses I have ever owned. Not only does it take great macro shots, but it also takes great everyday pictures no matter what subject you are shooting.

I love this lens on my D780, D7100, and D50 infrared cameras. Not a fast lens, but the sharpness more than makes up for it.

Great lens.

The lens is fantastic. Works great for my macro shots as well as potrait photography. The shake reduction works well. Heavier lens; but well worth it for the photos I am able to get with it.

Quality Lens at a Great Price

Can't say enough great things about the Sigma 105mm Macro Lens. Sturdy construction. Intuitive to use despite all the buttons. Comes with a carrying bag. I got it in a bundle, so it came with lots of extra things like the lens cap strap, a set of filters, etc. Some reviewers have commented the autofocus motor can be loud. And that's sort of true. But you hear it for maybe half a second. It's certainly not at the level that I'm upset in any way, especially considering I paid under $600 for the whole kit.

Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Canon EF performs well in my experience mounted with RF EF adapter w/ or w/o the 1.4 TC.

Very pleased with this lens on the R6, here's an example of one that was focus stacked in DPP and edited in Luminar 4.

Amazing lens

I purchased this lens primarily to use with my Canon 80D in doing macro photography, since extension tubes weren't doing it for me anymore. I've only taken a few macro shots so far, but the quality is fantastic - very sharp, decent working distance, perfect for the way I want to use the lens. But what surprised me is how well this lens performs in non-macro situations - pet portraits mostly, but also just some general walk-around type things. At 100mm, it's not an everyday walk-around lens, but when you have it in your bag it comes in handy. But with pets - four cats - that 100mm gives a working distance that is so much better than any of my other lenses, without sacrificing sharpness or forcing a higher ISO than I want. So far I am really happy with it.

Great macro lens.

Amazing image quality. I was blown away by the detail in stacked images using this lens. On hand held images, butterfly's and other creatures which do not want to "pose,"

The detail this lens captures is incredible. The AF allows for quick, easy capture. Being able to switch between AF/M and not miss shots on this lens makes it my new go-to for insects and flowers. I am beyond pleased with my purchase.

Great lens!!

By ELOZOR G.

Great lens. Macro lenses are essential for product photog. Especially jewelry work. This lens gives me great detail at a good working distance. I also needed it for occasional head shots and other portraiture which it does fantastic as well! You do NOT need to spend the extra $$ on the nikon! This does the job exactly the same! Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE This lens

By KURT R.

I am an amature photographer and recently became interested in trying my hand at Macro photography. I was a little wary because I have been told that this is one of the more difficult types of photography to do. This lens makes it much easier than I expected. It is easy to manually focus and produces tack sharp images. The lens is a bit heavy and it had a hefty price tag (even on sale) but I am convinced that the quality of the lens has made all the difference and it encourages me that, y...
