I tested the Sony version first and I really don't see difference except for cost. I do mostly weddings and family photography. I really love Sigma and I have a small collection of their lenses. However, it would be nice to have the f/stop on the lens like the 35mm does.

I've been eyeing a Sigma 135 for years but couldn't justify since I already had a 70-200! Well I switched to Sony and decided... OK its time for a 135 since I'm buying all new lenses and holy wow! Its simply beautiful. The compression is beautiful and gives that magical ethereal look.

I?d been on the fence about getting a 135mm prime for a year, and in that time I?ve hummed and hawed over reviews and tech specs on YouTube pretty frequently. As a mostly portrait-oriented photographer, I?ve already added Tamron?s incredible 35 f/1.4 and the amazing Samyang RF 85 f/1.4 to my bag, but there are times when I want the scene compressed even more and still want the background butter my 85 produces. I thought about getting the Canon L but at the end of the day, I am not going to look back at my pictures and say ?man, I wish my lens had been smaller and more lightweight.? I am going to be happy I have a sharp image, and that is what this lens gives me.

Optical clarity wide open is absolutely stunning. I had read that AF is better than other Sigma lenses (including all the other Art series) but on my 5D3, 5D4, & 5DSR, it’s not very impressive for consistent AF accuracy. Most of my other native Canon lenses will more consistently hit perfect focus than this Sigma. My Canon lenses have about a 95% hit rate where this is more around 80%. I’m hoping that Canon’s new R series bodies perform better with this lens. Like I said though, optically it is a jewel and I have been in situations where my 70-200F2.8 didn’t gather enough light but this 135F1.8, even with the focus issues, performed butter due to the ability to freeze subject movement. It was a very dark venue.

I have extensive experience using premium lenses in all contemporary digital formats (M4/3 / APS-C / FF). I can tell you unequivocally, I have never used a lens of this caliber. IMHO, its image quality is as good as it gets. From its exceptional clarity, to its control of distortion and lens aberrations, as well as the gorgeous, creamy bokeh, I am in awe! I LOVE THIS LENS! Based on my experience I will be acquiring the Sigma 40mm f1.4 Art lens to pair it up with for an unbeatable two body/lens kit for all of my most critical work.

Heavier than my old one but sharp, with quick and precise focusing. I’ve had the old Canon 135 f/2 lens for years and loved it, but this is better in about every way—except the weight! I use the lens mostly to shoot bands in dark bars with poorly lit stages and that 1/3 stop makes a significant difference on the ISO. A 135mm lens is often a good replacement for a 70-200 zoom and now we’re talking 1-1/3 stops, with ISO dropping from say, 6400 to 2500. And it’s quite a bit lighter than the zoom, of course. Someday I’ll actually use it as a portrait lens but it’ll still go to every bar shoot with me.

Sigma 135 ART is a *very* nice lens for astrophotography. Stars are pretty good even at f/1.8, and better when stopped down a little.

I shoot with Nikon’s Z cameras - the Z6 and Z7. I checked with Sigma ahead of the purchase to make sure the lens would be fully compatible with the FTZ adapter. They assured me it would be. When it arrived and I tested it on the Z6, it was quite good. Like most adapted lenses, it was a bit slow on the autofocus, especially when shooting at wider apertures like f/1.8 and f/2. It was solid at f/4 and smaller. Again, taking my cue from Sigma, I assumed that if it worked well on the Z6, it would work equally well on the Z7. That was not the case. In fact, the focusing was off completely on Z7, and did not stabilize until I stopped down to f/5.6. I was really quite confused since apart from the sensors, the cameras are effectively the same. I wondered if the most recent Nikon update for the Z7 had in fact broken full compatibility with the 135 Art, and Sigma needed to release a new firmware. Whatever the case, it did not work for the Z7. Regrettably I returned it.

Not the best focusing lens once conditions get challenging but a unique look to your images. It’s sharp and delivered excellent results.

I have the sony a7iii, a for a while I use a mout 135mm zeiss. Clouldnt use Eye AF and wanted something to be able to this feature. Was on the fence about zess batis 135m and this sigma135mm. Sharpness and auto focus was about even. The sigma is f1.8 and zeiss is f2.8. The zeiss color does look better SOOC but after that the sigma beat it or it is a tie. The sharpest from edge to edge and the DOF you will create definitely stand out on the sigma. Use it mainly it for wedding and portrait. It is worth every bit of money you will pay for it.

I have had this lens for over a month. I wasn't sure if I needed it due to my owning the Nikon 105, and the Nikon 70-200 both excellent for portraits. I recently took it on a shoot in where I photographed New Years street portraits leading up to new year celebration, as well as studio portraits under controlled lighting. In both situations I was blown away by the sharpness, and buttery shallow depth of field. In camparison to the 70-200 is was pretty close, but the 70-200 could not compete in low light situations.I would definitely recommend this lens to anyone serious about protraits... it's well worth the price.

I've only had this brand new lens out on three photo sessions so a long term assessment is still a work in process. What I have found is that this lens can produce images that are simply stunning. SHARP or sharper than any lens I’ve owned. Cropping tiny sections of an image retains image quality noticeably cleaner & sharper than most any other lens I’ve owned. Focus is spot on. I understand some Canon/Nikon versions both native and adapted to Sony have produced some reports that focusing is not as consistent as desirable. My Sony fe copy on my Sony a73 locks focus as well as my Sony 85mm 1.8. But what really sets this lens apart is the absolutely amazing bokeh. The combination of image sharpness and 135mm compression delivers images that are top of class. The lens is magic! I’m an experienced photographer and recent convert from Nikon to Sony.

Image Quality is stellar. Not the fastest af, but once locked in, the eye AF works wonderfully. It’s really heavy and big, but that’s what you get for such a high quality lens! Highly recommended!
