Consistently sharp, corner-to-corner, across all apertures. Perfect wide to normal zoom, easy to use. Purchased to use mostly for events, filling in the hole between my 10-20mm zoom and my 105. Very happy with it, and with the good service and affordable prices from Adorama. Thanks!

Inexpensive

I purchased this lens because of the price point instead of the Nikon of similar specifications. As long as you use it in the middle f-stops rather than wide open it works well for the price. My only complaint is the amount of chromatic aberration that it has in the blue wavelength.

Great!

I bought this not long ago and I am not disappointed but there are some issues... Firstly there is a lock that allows you to lock the zoom to 18mm, it is not a problem that has any effect on the use but it is absolutely useless. Secondly the autofocus speed is a little slow, this is due to the lack of a silent-wave motor or equivalent (on the other hand not having an internal engine make the lenses more durable). And finally the focus ring rotates with the autofocus, sigma could do better than that. It still has great optic quality at an exelent price.

The Sigma Corporation is pleased to announce the launch of the 18-50mm F2.8 Ex DC MACRO lens. It is fully compatible with all Nikon Digital SLR cameras, including the D40 and D40x.

This lens has a large aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range, a minimum focusing distance of 20cm (7.9..) and a maximum magnification of 1:3, making it ideal for close-up photography.

Specially designed to suit the characteristics of digital SLR cameras this lens provides a high level of optical performance. Its design incorporates both glass-mold and hybrid aspherical lens technology which offers extremely high image quality as well as a compact and lightweight construction. Minimal vignetting and superior peripheral brightness is ensured.

Special Low Dispersion (SLD) and Extraordinary Low Dispersion (ELD) glass elements provide excellent correction of color aberrations. The super multi-layer lens coating reduces flare and ghosting, a common problem with digital cameras. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. An inner focusing system eliminates front lens rotation, making the lens particularly suitable for using the petal-type lens hood (supplied) plus circular polarizing filters.
