I've tried Sigma's Art series for APS-C and came away impressed by the image quality. When it was time for my full-frame primes, I immediately gave Sigma a look. Their 'made in Japan' build quality assurance, features, and value made me choose it over the Sony GM. The lens did not disappoint. It met all my expectations. The construction is Art series standard. The focus is quick and precise with my A7R3a. Image quality is excellent. It's a fast wide prime in one of my most used focal lengths. It handles well and is not too heavy or large. I shoot landscapes and occasional low-light urban cityscapes with it. I haven't seen any negative image characteristics. Flare is well controlled. Sigma provided a carrying case which is a plus. A pleasant surprise! Highly recommend this wide angle prime.

This review was very hard to be objective about. You see, I've been waiting impatiently for Nikon to release a new 35mm f/1.4 lens for more than five years.

While the SIGMA 24mm F1.4 DG DN | Art Lens for Sony E, bundled with Hoya 77mm UV and CPL Filters, is designed for astrophotography, its wide viewing angle and superior optical performance make it a versatile tool for a variety of photography genres. This compact, large-aperture, wide-angle lens delivers stunning image clarity, even in challenging lighting conditions, making it an ideal choice for everything from indoor snapshots to architectural photography and night sky imaging.
The lens boasts a dedicated mirrorless optical design, utilizing each glass element and part optimally to suppress optical aberrations such as sagittal coma flare. This ensures peak performance across the entire image, all within a lightweight, compact body. The inclusion of a front filter thread, rear filter holder, and the newly introduced MFL (Manual Focus Lock) switch further enhance the lens's versatility and potential.
The SIGMA 24mm F1.4 DG DN | Art Lens's exceptional optical performance is powered by an optimal arrangement of 17 elements in 14 groups, including two FLD, one SLD, and four aspherical glass elements. This arrangement effectively suppresses optical aberrations, contributing to the lens's clear and accurate point-image reproduction capabilities. Ghosting or flares are minimized by the lens's state-of-the-art optical design, and the use of Super Multi-Layer Coating and Nano Porous Coating (NPC) ensures stunning visuals even in backlit conditions and near maximum aperture.
Despite its large maximum aperture and wide viewing angle, the SIGMA 24mm F1.4 DG DN | Art Lens is astonishingly compact and lightweight. This is achieved through the optimal placement of each component, the use of complex aspherical glass elements, and the short flange back distance. This makes the lens easy to use in a variety of situations, from travel and street photography to night-time photography.
The lens's build quality is superb, featuring a dust- and splash-resistant structure and a water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element. Thoughtful features such as a focus mode switch, a configurable AFL button, and an aperture ring lock switch enhance the lens's intuitive and flexible nature. The petal-type hood has a lock mechanism to prevent unintentional removal, and filmmakers will appreciate the fast yet silent autofocus driven by a stepping motor and the smooth aperture control provided by the aperture ring click switch.
In conclusion, the SIGMA 24mm F1.4 DG DN | Art Lens for Sony E, bundled with Hoya 77mm UV and CPL Filters, is a testament to SIGMA's relentless pursuit of perfection, offering high optical performance, versatility, and convenience to both professional photographers and those new to wide-angle prime lenses.
