I'm 90% sure it will work as the mount is the same on both cameras as I understandDAVID D : Yes, this lens will work with the 70D (I have both and have used them together successfully) but you will not get the full wide angle effect because of the 70D's smaller sensor (CMOS as opposed to full-size 35mm on cameras like the 5D).
Shopper : does this fit canon 5D Mark III?NICHOLAS L : Yes. It fits and works with the 5d III. I have the sigma eos lens and the eos 5d III.STEPHANIE M : I believe this is a full-frame lens, so it will work with the 5D mark III.WILLIAM C : Yes it fits all EF mounts and will produce an image circle large enough for all full frame cameras such as the 5D Mk III and 6D. This lens feels so good to handle

I used this lens on my Canon t3i, at my granddaughters birthday party. Not only did this lens feel comfortable in my hands but it operated so smoothly. From one shot to the next the auto focus and the lens as a whole just worked as if I have been using it for years. I bought this lens for a new camera I'm getting for Christmas, but I have to wait until Christmas before I can get my hands on my new Canon 6D to try this Sigma 24-70 lens with it.

Not as sharp as a Canon but excellent for the money saved by buying Sigma. Only used twice but happy so far.

Sigma delivers great value

I bought this lens because I was lacking the focal range and wanted to compliment a 70-200vr w/o breaking the bank. I really wanted the nikon 24-70 but could not justify the price. I've been using it as a portrait lens, action shots for wide angle and general walking around glass. Feels solid. Certainly not a pro-level metal lens, but as mentioned - those cost lots more. Getting good results. I wish it wasn't a telescoping lens, but on the other hand it makes it more portable when walking around. The 82mm lens means I have to purchase another ND filter. All in all, I think it's a great lens for the price. The only thing I haven't been able to do with it yet is getting a decent starburst. It does give more flare than I'd hoped. I'd recommend this lens.

This is Super Nice

It's clarity is splendid. The weight is a nice balance on my D7100. I wasn't sure what to think when I purchased this lens, but it really surprised me. It has a nice fall-off at 2.8 . This is now my preferred lens for portraits and weddings.

Very good alternative to Canon/Nikon len

I still cannot believe how inexpensive this lens is for how good it is. I have one for my Nikons AND my Canons. Very sharp, very clear, lightweight.

A good value.

Of course the "gold standard" for a lens in the 24-70mm range is the Canon 24-70mm f2.8 Series II but for some of us it's price is prohibitive. The Sigma 24mm-70mm f/2.8 EX Aspherical IF EX DG HSM Lens for Canon is a viable choice as are the samples from Tamron and Tokina. The Tamron, in my opinion, is also too expensive for what it is. The debatable advantage of the feature 'image stabilization' is marginal. Plus that increases the cost. And the price is the driving factor for buying this level of lens as opposed to the Canon. I have read other reviews that the Siggy was soft and not as sharp. I found that to not be the case in the one I bought. Is is as good as the Canon? No it is not, but than again it is less than half the cost. Is it good? Yes, it is and in real world photography, in all but the most critical circumstances, you may never notice the difference. It is not weather sealed. It is heavy. It requires 82mm filters. It comes with a nice carrying case and a lens hood. On my copy the auto focus is quick and silent. It is spot on as it came out of the box on my 1D Mk III. The Siggy is a valid alternative to the Canon for most of us and a better lens than the Tokina and a better value than the Tamron.

Perfect addition for full frame projects

This lens really has the range and sharpness I was looking for with I purchased the Sony A850. I just upgraded to full frame and am very pleased with the results I have been getting shooting landscapes and portraits. Always been a Sigma Lens fan and this is one of the best.

Love this product

I have been using this product for a little over a week now and absolutely love it! I bought this for a wedding that I am doing in September but have found that it has such good tack sharp images I have had a hard time putting my 50mm back on my camera just because of the versatility of this lens...Also, the wide angle - perfection! Doesn't distort the image yet captures soooo much!

Balance between value and performance

As a travel photographer, I wanted to find a lens that was durable, relatively inexpensive, could cover most situations and still deliver high quality pictures. 24-70 is a good compromise but there are not many options on the market. The Sigma 24-70 f2.8 will deliver the best results when used with non-full frame cameras. While the Nikon lens with the same specs is clearly the best when it comes to performance, it's hefty price tag is hard to justify for non-professionals. I also tested the new Tamron 24-70 which is also over-priced in my opinion. I found the Sigma to be a fair compromise and will definitely recommend it to price-conscious amateurs who want an everyday run-about lens with better picture quality.

Tack sharp, fast focus, quality lense.

I shoot sports, mostly motorsports, and boxing. This lense has been used at NASCAR events as well as Dirt Track. It provided me with fast, quality shots that I am proud to present.

Loses its mind in cold weather

I bought this lens to go with my D700 and am reasonably happy with it overall. However, on a Christmas trip to the Santa Fe, NM, area I found that I frequently had to dismount/remount it to the camera, as it would occasionally stop metering or focusing when temperatures were in the 20s and 30s F. I also own a D300 with the Nikon 17-55 and have never had that problem in that kind of weather. For what it's worth, I have also used a Pentax K-x with a Pentax 16-45 mm lens and didn't have the problem with that combo, either. So, I think the problem is in this lens. All the same, the lens gave me some great photos on that trip, so I'm OK with it.

Lens Purchase Does Not Disappoint!

I opted to forego the purchase of the original kit lens for my Nikon D600. Ordering the Sigma 24 - 70 mm, f 2.8 was the best decision when it comes to adding full frame lenses to this camera. I wanted a fast primary lens and I got it. Its weight balances well in my hand, and I am able to capture clear images evenin low light. I shoot 99 % of the time in anual and so far the lens has never disappointed!

Good value for the money

What can you say? At less than half the price of the Canon 24-70 f2.8L, the Sigma lens is a no-brainer for those on a budget. The lens is very well built and the HSM delivers good response. Sharpness is not quite Canon L quality, but it is acceptable in most instances.

This lens is Sharp , product photos came out super sharp. sometimes a little lens creep , but nothing i can't live with. If you need a reasonable priced 2.8 lens buy this one. It's worth it.

great lens

I decided to get this lens instead of Canon 24-70mm L lens because of the price. I use it with Canon 60D camera and I am fully satisfied of what I can do with this lens. Autofocus is good but not 100% at the time. Overall I really like this lens and I would definetely recommend it to a friend.

Really bad glass. Terrible focus issue. Gave it a quick try and sent it ba eck. A similar experience to all of the other Sigma glass I have tried over te years. Costs less then Canon but not worth it.

Good on a DX

This is a good lens on a DX camera. Using the center of the lens, it is quite sharp. The autofocus so very loud and annoying. It makes it feel like the autofocus is slow, although I doubt it really is. It is shorter and wider than the Nikon version, making it a bit handier.

Stays on my camera!

This lens makes up the shorter half of my basic lens kit for my Canon 5D MkII (24-70 and 70-200) and it;s hard to get it off my camera. Unless im doing portraits with a fixed focal or want to reach out and touch something, this lens is on my camera. Very sharp at the low end of the focal range at 2.8-3.5ish...takes a little getting used to closer to 70mm. All in all it's a great lens.

Good lens for what it is.

Not a constant f/2.8 but even at f/4 it is pretty good. All my test shots look great and very sharp. Focus is fast. No complaints.

FEATURED REVIEWS

Simply Exceptional, Great Pro Wide Zoom

By Rick S.

As a wedding and event photographer, I spend most of my time in dark churches, reception halls and concert venues. So, it's essential to have fast, accurate lenses in my lineup. I purchased this lens in summer 2010 to replace my Sigma 24-70 f/2.8 non-USM version. Once I put this lens on my Canon 5D, it instantly became my favorite lens. It's very sharp wide open, and has quick, accurate autofocus. It does have vignetting from f/2.8-3.5, but I tend to accentuate that anyway in my photos, so it...

Better Than Expected

By DeweyB

I bought this lens because I didn't want to shell out the money for the Nikon 24-70. The reviews that I read stated that this lens was just about as good as the Nikon. Based on what I have seen so far I would say that the lens is just as good as the Nikon for half the price. This lens is smaller and lighter than the Nikon as well.

This large aperture standard zoom lens covers focal lengths from 24mm and is housed in compact construction. The latest optical design provides an overall length of 94.7cm /3.7inch. It is ideal for general photography such as snapshots, portraiture and landscapes. The Super Multi Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting. ELD (Extraordinary Low Dispersion) glass, two SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements and three aspherical lenses provide excellent correction of all types of aberrations. Superior optical performance is ensured throughout the entire zoom range.

This lens incorporates HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), ensuring a quiet and high speed AF as well as full time manual focusing capability.

This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 38cm/15in and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.3. The rounded 9 blades diaphragm creates an attractive blur. It is possible to attach the included petal-type hood to block out extraneous light.
