Review Summary

I am highly impressed with the quality and reproductive capabilities of this lens. i should also tell you that my arsenal includes the Art 135mm f/1.4, the 85mm f/1.8, the 50mm f/1.4, the 28mm f/1.4 the 35mm f/1.4 and the 24mm f/1.4 i have found that these lens are incredibly sharp, speedy in focusing and produce great color saturation. Seldom do I shoot anything but manual and stopping these lens down of shooting them wide open does not matter. They are super. In addition, I have had occasion to deal with Sigma for maintenance issues and they are courteous, professional, and have the ability to turn your equipment quickly. It is extremely difficult for me to find shortcomings in any of the lens. Do not be afraid of the price. You get what you pay for with these tools. I highly recommend the entire Art line from Sigma.

Lens is built like a tank, super sharp, contrasty with good colors, but the auto-focusing was garbage and wildly inaccurate, so I sold it years ago. Even with adjusting in camera using a lens calibration tool, I could never get it spot on. Really wanted to like/keep this lens primarily for wedding receptions/low light, but I couldn't trust it to produce in-focus images.

Just do it! If your on the fence jump! I have wanted this lens for a long time and finally justified buying it. This lens is THE LENS that will stay on my camera. Incredibly sharp. I?m not used to prime lens but having this one took no time to figure out. Plus it?s small and not heavy.

If you're looking for a cheaper version of the Canon USM 35mm then this is the one to get. It's super sharp and the autofocus works great - and the AF noise isn't that bad at all.

Mine came with the Sigma Dock. I was able to calibrate it with little effort. The results are very satisfying. It cost way less than the Nikon, and exhibits reasonable sharpness at f/1.4. It also has a handsome appearance. I am very satisfied with the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art lens. It does justice to my Nikon D850.

Very sharp lens
By Kenneth D.
I use the Sigma Art 35mm on a Sony A7 III primarily for stills (not video). The autofocus capability is super fast and the lens is super sharp with a close focusing range. I recommend this lens for anyone in the market for a 35mm.
What sets the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART Lens for Canon EF apart is its commitment to delivering high-level artistic quality. As the first lens from Sigma's Art line, it's designed with a focus on sophisticated optical performance and abundant expressive power, making it a top choice for photographers who value creative, dramatic outcomes.
This lens is not just about compactness and multifunctionality. It's about capturing landscapes, portraits, still-life, close-ups, and casual snaps with an artistic touch. Whether you're into studio photography, architecture, starry skies, or underwater shots, this lens offers a wide expressive scope.
The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART Lens is engineered with an emphasis on aberration correction, an essential element for high-performance lenses. It incorporates FLD ("F" Low Dispersion) glass elements, which have performance equal to fluorite, and SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements. By optimizing the power alignment of the lens, both types of aberration have been corrected, resulting in ultra-high image quality throughout the entire focusing range.
The lens also boasts a large maximum aperture of F1.4, ensuring excellent brightness and a beautiful bokeh effect for wide-angle photography. The correction of coma aberration results in less blur on a point light source in peripheral areas, making it ideal for astrophotography and illuminations. It also creates an attractive blur to the out-of-focus areas of the image.
The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART Lens features a floating inner focusing system that compensates for astigmatic aberration and spherical aberration, providing extremely high optical performance for close-up photos. The lens is designed to resist flare and ghosting, ensuring sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions.
The lens is equipped with a Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM) that ensures high speed and quiet autofocus (AF), as well as full-time manual focus override. The brass-made bayonet mount is both highly accurate and durable, ensuring long-term use.
The Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART Lens is also user-friendly, with an improved design for the lens cap and AF/MF changeover switch. The lens is checked using Sigma's proprietary MTF (modulation transfer function) measuring system (A1) before shipping, ensuring the highest quality.
Proudly made in Japan, the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM ART Lens embodies Sigma's commitment to genuine craftsmanship and advanced technology, satisfying professionals and photography enthusiasts worldwide.
