About Sigma T1.5 Cine

Before Sigma Corporation ventured into the cinema lens market, the need for high-resolution lenses compatible with the latest digital cinema cameras was growing. Recognizing this demand, Sigma introduced its Cine Lenses, specifically engineered for cinematography. These lenses are part of Sigma's FF High-Speed Prime Line, which includes five lenses ranging from 20mm to 85mm, all boasting a wide T1.5 aperture.

Designed for full-frame sensors, these compact lenses outperform other high-end prime sets in resolution. They offer consistent light levels across various shots, eliminating the need to adjust lighting. This consistency extends to the film's look, color, and contrast, reducing post-production work.

Each Cine lens model is weatherproof and features luminous paint markings for easy operation in low light conditions. They offer a long focus rotation of 180 degrees, guided by cams for smooth operation and precision. The design includes standardized essentials such as an 82mm front for ND filters, a 95mm front diameter for matte box use, and standard gear positions for accessories like follow focus.

These lenses also feature manual linear iris control and electronic mounts that provide essential camera metadata. Each lens undergoes rigorous inspection in Sigma's factory in Aizu, Japan, ensuring compliance with all specifications.

Sigma's proprietary A1 Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) measuring system is used to inspect each lens, capturing even high-frequency details previously undetectable. This meticulous inspection process guarantees high-performance shooting with ultra-high resolution sensors.

Sigma's design process uses computer-based ray tracing from the initial stage to minimize flare and ghosting, enhancing contrast in backlit conditions. The lenses also deliver sharpness combined with an outstanding bokeh effect, meeting high demands for image quality in both still photography and cinematography.

All lenses in the lineup comply with Sigma's CCI standard, ensuring standardized color balance for easy color correction. They are ready for 6K-8K class resolution shooting, making them ideal for chroma keying.

Despite their high performance, these lenses are lightweight and compact, thanks to Sigma's high-precision, high-efficiency mass production technologies. They feature dust-proof and splash-proof construction, with each ring and mount specially sealed for use in tough conditions.

The lenses also feature luminous paint for enhanced visibility in low light conditions, and laser engraving for long-term use. Sigma also offers a robust selection of accessories, including a USB Dock for firmware updates and a Mount Conversion Service for lens conversion between EF and E-mounts.

Sigma's entry into the cinema lens market with its Cine Lenses offers a high-quality, professional, and reliable solution for cinematographers seeking superior resolution and performance.

Sigma T1.5 Cine Features

  • 100% metal body: The body is made completely of metal to stand up to tough professional use over the long term.
  • 82mm filter size: The filter size is standardized at 82mm, allowing users to use the same size of ND filter on different lenses.
  • 95mm front diameter: The front diameter is 95mm, similar to that of other cine lenses and compatible with matte boxes. Compared to lenses in the same class, SIGMA's cine lenses are more lightweight and compact.
  • Standardized gear positions: The positions of the gears in each ring are standardized, eliminating the need to adjust the follow focus, motor unit, or accessories even when the lens changes.
  • 0.8M gear pitch: Each lens has a 0.8M gear pitch, which is the standard for cine lenses, ensuring compatibility with existing accessories.
  • Silent ring stoppers: The stopper of each ring incorporates a damper made of a special resin, resulting in silent operation. While offering a satisfying lock feel, this feature eliminates any metallic sounds, allowing the user to shoot with confidence in a quiet area.
  • 180½ focus rotational angle: At 180½, the rotational angle of the focus ring is more than double that of a still camera lens, making possible extremely high-precision focusing. SIGMA has also optimized the cam for cine lenses for even easier long distance focusing.
  • Iris with full manual control: Featuring manual control capability, the iris ring offers smooth control without clicks. The T-stop display, which is standard in cine lenses, contributes to high-precision exposures. Just like a high-end cine lens, the rotational angle of the iris ring is 60½.
  • Linear iris ring: The linear iris ring gives users the same rotational angle per T-stop for direct, intuitive control.
  • Selectable focus ring with feet or meter graduations: Based on user needs, a focus ring with either feet or meter graduations may be selected. For a small charge, SIGMA can also convert the ring from one type to the other after purchase.
  • Mount with electronic contacts: The mount with electronic contacts allows the lens to communicate important information to the body (focal length, shooting distance, aperture etc.).
  • Enhanced EF mount: The hole for the stopper pin has been strengthened with a separate part to minimize loosening over time and enhance long-term use.
  • Dedicated lens support foot: The provided lens support foot helps minimize load on the camera body while enhancing mount stability. The height of the seating surface is designed for compatibility with other accessories. Even though the lens is compact, its robust design offers two different screw holes for this accessory to increase user options.
  • Cine-style front lens cap: All lenses come complete with a conventional cine-style front lens cap.
