It?s small, compact and fast. It renders soft yet usable images. I?m glad to purchase this one on a such a deal price.

First off, this seems to be a well made lens. It?s all metal and feels solid. Even the lens hood is metal and chunky. Image quality is good but not great. As many reviews have noted, it?s soft wide open. Stopping down definitely helps, but it?s never going to be the sharpest lens in your bag. The bokeh is definitely smooth and nice, though. But apparently that was the intention the lens designers had?bokeh quality over tack-sharpness. Even though the lens is solidly built, it?s small and thus not too heavy. It feels good on the camera (Sony a7ii in my case). It?s small enough to be a good walk-around or travel lens. The 45mm focal length is nice?very close to what the human eye sees. The aperture ring is a nice feature?I like it better than controlling the aperture in camera. The AF/MF switch is nice too. If you go in not expecting a pro-quality lens, and you like smooth bokeh over tack-sharpness, you?ll be happy with it. Especially if you get it on sale.

This lens is very well built, very compact, and still sharp even on a7r iv. The only gripe is autofocus slower than it's competitors.

I enjoy the full frame lens in its very small format factor. The price was good and the f2.8 on full frame gets me enough light

Great tiny lens for walking around and street photography. I also liked it for car photography.I find 45mm focal lengths more comfortable than 35mm.

Amazing piece of glass, super sharp and quick to focus plus Sigma knocked it out of the park with the build quality. It just feels so good in the hand ???? Would?ve wished for a little brighter aperture but it?s more than adequate for most work.

This pairs well with my A7C. It's built like any other Sigma, full metal and durable except it isn't huge like Sigmas normally are. Slight vignetting and distortion but the A7C corrects it without any issue. For what you pay you're getting a great performing lens that'll keep your setup small and light.

This is an amazing lens. I was a tad bit skeptical about purchasing it for my Leica T, but it's incredibly sharp and incredibly fast. The only drawback, the aperture ring doesn't control the aperture on the camera. So be mindful of that if you're using the Leica T.

This lens may or may not work on 1st Generation Sony a7x bodies. I had two consecutive lenses lose their ability to focus altogether after a few days of normal use. Both times it happened shortly after changing the focusing mode via the camera. The first lens went back to Adorama, the second I sat with for a few days, wondering if I was just reaaaaally unlucky, or if there was a compatibility issue. And, yes- I performed every last troubleshooting step I could think of, including (but not limited to) cleaning the contacts, trying every different combination of focusing modes via lens and camera, using brand-new batteries, and a factory reset. The lens was still in communication with the camera, as evidenced by the fact I was able to change the aperture from the camera dial while the lens was in "A", and the fact that the digital distance scale in the EVF moved when I turned the ring in MF mode. The focus was just.... frozen. As a desperate, last-ditch attempt to salvage the lens, I enlisted the help of a friend who owned an a73. I had him put the lens on his camera and, guess what? It WORKED. I put it back on mine and it sprang back to life, like nothing had ever happened. Crazy, right? I toggled over to Video and it started to glitch out again, so I quickly put it back into Stills mode. I'm sticking to using AF-S only, out of fear it will crap out again, during the busiest photo time of the year, no less. I recalled that video is AF-C by default, which confirms my theory that the lens simply does not play well with changes made via the camera. So, you may be asking.... why? Why would anyone put up with this? Furthermore, why would anyone put up with this from a $[xxx] lens that only goes to f/2.8 when there is (according to most of the Internet) a much "better" 45mm f/1.8 lens for a couple hundred dollars less? I will attempt to answer that. Without going overboard on listing my qualifications and tallying my gear list, I'll tell you that I'm a complete, unapologetic Lens Snob. However, my snobbery doesn't derive from lenses that champion MTF charts, or easily quantifiable data points like f-stop numbers, but from the subtleties. Handling. Rendering. That "B" word everyone hates. Transition zones. That sort of thing. If I don't like the way a lens *feels* in my hand, I'll leave it on the shelf. Sigma is not a company that needs to prove it knows how to make sharp lenses. It's not a company that needs to prove it can make fast lenses. It's already done plenty of those, often with size and price being de-prioritized to those ends. This lens' design was focused solely on creating a lens with the best *rendering* in a small, beautifully-crafted package. If you'd like to read about the design philosophy from one of the engineers behind it, Google "Ohsone's Anecdotes Episode 6" because I can't link it. I rented this lens for a weekend gig and I was absolutely HOOKED. The all-metal build, aperture ring, size/weight combo was glorious, but the rendering was unlike anything I'd ever seen. Buttery smooth backgrounds, even at f/4-f/5.6, where most lenses get gnarly. Tones that could melt butter. Even the busiest, jagged and geometric transition zones were rendered as silk. Like the classic Sonnars, but with more "pop" where it counts, more edge to the points in focus. ZERO CA. Flare when you really were *trying* to get flare. So, is this really an "overpriced" lens, as so many out there are claiming? Let's consider, for a moment, the competition. The Sony 35mm f/2.8, which, even 5 years or so after its release, is listed at around $[xxx] new. And we really don't need to re-hash all the technical issues that lens has, for all its adherents. The new 35mm f/1.8? Also $[xxx]. The 55/1.8 (aka CA MONSTER)? $[xxxx]. And, sure. The Elephant in the Room. The Samyang/Rokinon 45mm f/1.8. Sure, yeah- that one is $[xxx]. It's also EXTREMELY harsh in the transition zones, has no aperture ring, and is likely, quite literally held together with glue (ask Roger at LensRentals about that) So there's that. But hey, if you want to save a couple hundred bucks on arguably the most important element (pun intended) in your gear bag, or don't want to lower your shutter speed or boost your ISO in low light, it's an option, sure. This Sigma? Something else entirely. (Knocking off a star for making me deal with quirks... c'mon with some firmware, Sigma) P.S.- thanks Adorama for the painless exchange, but please look into this on 1st Gen Sony bodies.

Incredible for what it does well, and for me that is a Leica SL street lens. Small gorgeous and super sharp at typical street focal distances and apertures. Anyone can complain about it only being 2.8 and not tack sharp at 2.8 at the minimum focus distance. However, there are horses for courses and this once is a winner if you know what it does well and suits your needs.

This lens is really well built and small, it's currently the smallest L-mount lens with autofocus. Can be a bit soft with low contrast when focusing close, but it's has good sharpness & contrast from mid-distances to infinity.

The aperture ring is pointless since it's still electronic so with the lumix S1 shooting high speed video you still can't control the aperture. The lens is soft until you get to around 5.6 and the focus gear on the front is made of metal and a wireless focus motor slips to much to make it usefull. Pulling manual focus in linear focus is very clumsy and feels more like non-linear. Howeve it's still my favorite street photography lens right now (9/4/2019) for my S1 so I'm okay with it but also wouldn't recommend it to most.

This lens is extremely sharp and lightweight. 45mm is closer to what human eye sees, making this lens an great lens for photo who obsess about composition and framing your subject. The manual aperture ring is just a joy to use, I wish more lenses had the feature. Overall this is a must have lens for the Panasonic LUMIX DC-S1.

45mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary.
Compact size is realized while maintaining high image quality and is compatible with full-frame mirrorless cameras. This prime lens refines the concept of the Contemporary line.
Designed for combination with relatively small full-frame mirrorless cameras, this standard lens pursues easy operability as a regular prime lens by balancing its easy-to-carry size and high optical performance, thereby embodying the Contemporary line's development concept of "pursuing optimum balance", and becoming the perfect first lens in the lineup dedicated for full-frame mirrorless cameras.
Beautiful Bokeh & Rendering That Can Be Enjoyed In Every Scene.
With the SIGMA 45mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary, bokeh expressions are especially featured. Spherical aberration has been controlled to ensure not only the large bokeh in the front and rear of the subject but also the rear bokeh near the area in focus create a gradient to a soft blur. This lens softens the periphery of blurred images suppressing the double-line bokeh etc. and enhances the three-dimensional impression of the subject with the smooth expressions in the foreground and the background.
While this lens produces smooth bokeh effects of which one could say as "classical expression" when the aperture is wide open, it also realizes modern sharp rendering when it is stopped down. It is reassuring to hold this lens as the regular lens for everyday use.
High Build Quality & Outstanding Operability.
Because this lens is intended for everyday use, particular attention has been given to build quality and operability. The lens barrel incorporating metal material as the main part achieves improved durability. Furthermore, thanks to the aperture ring with the right click feeling, comfortable operability during various shooting styles is ensured. The design gives consideration to MF operations, and a ring of appropriate torque provides good operability.
Metal Bayonet Hood.
The lens hood features aluminum, using the same material as the lens body which has realized high quality and high rigidity. Furthermore, cared for the click feeling at the time of when removing and attaching, the knurling process featured on the surface provides a superior usability.
High-Speed & Highly Accurate AF Enabled By The Stepping Motor.
The lens is capable of smooth, quiet and high-speed AF made possible by a stepping motor, as well as supports Face/Eye Detection AF and video AF.
Compatible With Lens Aberration Correction.
Matching the optical characteristics of the lens, this function performs in-camera corrections of peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations, distortion, and more, to further enhance image quality.
Rounded Diaphragm.
The 7-blade rounded diaphragm creates an attractive blur in the out-of-focus areas of the image.
Mount With Dust & Splash-Proof Structure.
The mount features a special sealing to make the lens an excellent choice in a wide variety of conditions.
Designed To Minimize Flare & Ghosting.
From an early stage in the lens design process, flare and ghosting have been measured to establish an optical design resistant to strong incident light sources such as backlighting. SIGMA's Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting to help photographers produce sharp and high contrast images even in backlit conditions.
High-Precision, Rugged Brass Bayonet Mount.
The brass mount combines high precision with rugged construction. Its treated surfaces and enhanced strength contribute to the exceptional durability of the lens.
Fast AF With Full-Time Manual Focus.
Full-time manual focus function allows the lens to be switched to manual focus simply by rotating the focus ring.
