Questions & Answers

BARBARA H : will this work on my D7100?LEN K : Yes it will. I used mine on the D7000 with fantastic results. Fast focusing, sharp images, great build quality and a very good value for the money. Also able to shoot in much lower light with the fixed 2.8f across the entire zoom range and the OS works well. Good job by SIgma on this lensDEONTE C : Yes it will!!
MICHAEL M : Are these stamped "Compatible with Nikon d5300" on the box? If not, they won't work on a D5300 and that is what I have.Alyson L : Unfortunately my box is long-gone, but if you have a Nikon DSLR and the Sigma you want has a Nikon mount, you should be golden.JOSEPH F RIVERA I : Just because the lens doesn't expressly state that it does work with the D5300, doesn't mean that it won't. It doesn't state that it will work with my D5100, but it does. That said, I can't say if it will or won't work with the D5300. I love this lens on DX sensors.SEAN M : It works on my d5100 and d600 just fine shouldn't be an issue with newer modelsKRZYSZTOF P : Works grate with D90 and D7100. I do not see any reason it would not be compatible with D5300 althought I did not try that combination by myself.DAVID W : The D5300 does not have an internal Auto-Focus motor so you need lenses with motors in side them. The term HSM stand for Hyper Sonic Motor. The abbreviations in the descriptions will tell you everything you need to know on lenses. Same as the term for AF-S. Great lens as well.
Shopper : will this work with a Nikon D300S?JACOB F : It would work because it's made for a cropped sensor camera but it's a big lens and the d3000 is a smaller body than my d7100 so it might feel like a lot of lens to carry around compared to the size of the camera body. Alyson L : Absolutely. I own both and the quality of this lens is fantastic.KRZYSZTOF P : Works well with D90 and D7100. Did not try on other cameras.STEVE P : Yes it should. The micro focus adjustment on you d300 may come in handy. I've used it on my sigma 50-150 zoom and Sigma 50mm to fine tune super sharp focus.KONSTANTINOS K : Absolutely! I use mine with the D300 and no problems there.WARREN B : Yes since it has hsm it will workDAVID W : Yes it will and the lens is a fantastic lens. Comparable to a 70-200 on a full frame.

Killer Lens

As a professional videographer for over 15 years, and, a hobbyist still photographer I LOVE this lens. It is the perfect tandem to my 17-55 f2.8. By far, the best still pics I have ever taken come from this lens. It is lovely on the Aperture Value setting and auto focuses tremendously well when attached to my 7D. If you know the intricacies of your camera and its menus this lens is unbeatable by its competition (weather sealing excluded) and takes as good if not better pics than the OEM equivalent (at half the price!!!!). I knew it would be a good lens but feared I was gambling with quality then trying to save some money by not ordering the Cannon 2.8 II. Win! I was pleasantly surprised by how great this Sigma is with portraits, quick motion and finding its target in low light situations. My summation: IF you've read this far…buy this lens…it is TREMENDOUS!!!

Great lens for the price

Great zoom lens with large aperture! Being able to get telephoto with f/2.8 is what I needed and the lens produces great pictures on my Nikon D7000. Build is very solid, zoom and focus rings are smooth. Only issue is its a bit heavy, but what do you expect from lens with this capability. Best part is the price compared to the Nikon similar versions.

great for action shots in low light

I purchased this lens specifically to shoot action shots for ice hockey, karate tournaments and dance recitals. This lens performs extremely well in low light settings such as a hockey rink. Clear photos on my D5100 shooting at 1/500 or faster and 1600 ISO.

Great Lens for APS-C Cameras!

I will be using this lens for wedding, portrait and landscape photography. It is the equivalent to a 70-200mm on a full frame camera.

Fantastic pro-level lens for APS-C cams

This is a wonderful, high quality, pro-level lens for APS-C shooters. On a Nokon APS-C sensor this is right around 75mm-225mm. Sigma makes some fine lenses and their QC has really taken a turn for the better and are now a serious alternative to Nikon and Canon for lenses. With its f2.8 arperture through the zoom range, this lens is fast! It also has beautiful bokeh, is sharp throughout the range with little CA and the optical stablization works as advertised. If you're looking for a telephoto lens in the 70-200mm range and dont want to drop over 2 grand for the nikon or canon, seriously consider this lens. Besides, the 70-200 canon or nikon is probably a little too long for APS-C cameras and would probably be a little awkward to use in terms of framing.

really good

this is optically an amazing lens. Seriously sharp at f/2.8 at all focal lengths. really accurate and fast autofocus and the stabilization works well. I'm comparing it to my nikon 80-200 f/2.8 AFD and it is every bit as good as the nikon and slightly sharper wide open at 150mm. Nice bokeh and contrast. I bought it for the closer focus distance of 3 feet vs the 5 feet I have with the Nikon, so I could shoot indoors as well as the 50 mm starting focal length for indoor events gives me more space for shots without backing up against a wall. I'm still keeping the nikon for the outdoor shoots where I need more distance, but the sigma is my go to event lens.

Nice

Very good for indoor action shots, sports, concerts, etc. Lens is solid but heavy, so a monopod would be recommended. Auto focus is fast, but optical stabilization takes about 1 second to kick in. Nice bokeh, good lens to have.

Very Good Value

Testing out the lens at, it's nearly as sharp as my 60mm prime at f2.8, which is quite impressive. My Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 needs to stop down to at least f5.6 to get comparable results. The lens weighs just as much as any 70-200 f2.8 IS lens. The 50-150mm focal range for the EF-S mount closely compares to the range of a 70-200 on a full frame, which IMO is more useful for indoor photography than the 70-200 lens on your crop body.

Sigma APO 50-150mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM, designed especially for APS-C size image sensors.

Sigma's proprietary OS (Optical Stabilizer) system offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower than would otherwise be possible, enabling hand held tele-photography. Six SLD glass elements compensate for chromatic aberrations and provide high image quality throughout the zoom range. The Super Multi-Layer Coating reduces flare and ghosting and ensures sharp and high contrast images even at the maximum apertures.

The lens design adopts an inner focusing and inner zooming system to provide convenient handling and the HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures quiet and high speed autofocus while allowing full-time manual focus override. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 80cm (31.5") and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.3. The rounded 9 blade diaphragm creates an attractive blur to the out of focus areas of the image. The addition of Sigma's TELE CONVERTER 1.4x EX DG APO or 2x EX DG APO produces a 70-210 F4 AF telephoto zoom lens or 100-300 F5.6 AF telephoto zoom respectively.
Note :
Nikon mounts do not have an aperture ring. Some functions may not work depending on the camera model.
