I picked up two of these to compliment my EF-610 DG SUPER. Realistically the only difference between the 610 and the 530 SUPER is the output power. The difference between these two and the Canon 580 isn't noticible (to human eyes anyway) and I haven't ever been wanting for power. Its a good deal, especially if you don't have the money to spring for the Canon gear. If I was rich, I would probably have the Canon equipment. Since I'm not, this equipment is perfectly fine. And to be honest I wish I would have bought these before I owned the 610 so that I could save myself $120 and just buy the 530's.

As a photographer I shoot all kinds of pictures from high school seniors to families to weddings and events. This speedlight has been a great addition to my collection of grear. The output is consistant and powerful. Recycletime is not too bad either. The functions are pretty easy to figure out once you toy with it a few times. One downfall I found with this is that there is no pc terminal. I love shooting off camera flash and to do so with this flash unit it has to be used as a slave and for fill flash or a secondary flash. The only improvement I would suggest to Sigma on their speedlights would be to add a pc terminal.

This flash sounded like a deal, the camera does all the ETTL so why do I need it duplicated in the flash? Flash fires about 50% of the time and then 25% of the time it does fire it doesn't fire bright enough. I have tried using the manual settings low & High just to get the job done but even then it still only fires half the time. Ordered a 580EX II expected to arrive today.

It's a great flash...when it works. Mine recently stopped working and they wanted to charge me almost full retail to "upgrade" to a newer model because they couldn't fix mine. I am buying a canon replacement as they tend to be much more reliable. In short, these are great flashes. I used it mostly on manual with my 30D because it tended to trend a bit overexposed (not sure if it's the flash or the camera). They are great for everyday use...but...don't rely on it if your photographic life hangs in the balance.

I found that the unit required a fairly steep learning curve, but once you learned it's features, it worked quite well for almost all of my photography.

Good product but there is a learning curve. That isn't the product's fault though. Wish the instruction booklet was clearer and explained things in more detail.

Got it as a second device, now I am using as a first device most of the time. Easy to use and excellent output. Using it with Canon 1Ds Mark III.

I use this flash for general use. I wanted a powerful bounce flash which makes it great for photos. The optical slave feature will work with any camera and give you the depth of professional photos. I had the opportunity to shoot a fashion show and the recycle time caused me to miss a few shots. I could fault my self with not controling the situation and taken better photos vs just shooting a bunch hoping I got a good one.

ELECTRONIC FLASH EF-530 DG SUPER.
EF-530 DG SUPER features a powerful Guide Number of 174 ft / 53m and is designed to work with the latest TTL auto exposure systems of all popular manufacturers' digital SLR cameras.
Among the advanced features of this flash are modeling flash function, multi pulse flash, TTL wireless flash, FP (high speed) flash, rear-curtain Synchro flash and manual flash mode which allows the photographer to set the flash power level by up to eight stops.
The Auto Power-Off function automatically shuts off the LCD panel to help save battery power. When the flashgun is fully charged, a confirmation "ready" light will be emitted. The autozoom function automatically sets the optimum illumination angle in accordance with the lens' focal length in a range from 24mm to 105mm. When the built-in Wide Panel is used, the flash can cover the angle of 17mm.
For bounce flash, the flashgun head can be tilted up by 90 degrees, to the left by 180 degrees, or to the right by 90 degrees. It can also be tilted down by 7 degrees allowing ease of use for close-up photography.
