Questions & Answers

Shopper : I hope I can explain this well. I'm wondering if this flash will tilt up after it's rotated. I need to bounce the flash off the ceiling while shooting in portrait, but my current flash only tilts up, so when I have my camera turned to shoot portrait length, I have to aim the flash directly at the subject and I don't like doing that. So I need something that will tilt up after it's been rotated to whatever side so it'll bounce off the ceiling. Will this flash do that?ARTHUR E : firstly I really enjoy this flash. The unit will rotate 270 degrees with the head pointed straight up towards the ceiling. It actually goes a little past straight up. about 5 degrees past Top Dead Center. I would also look at Youngo's new TTL flash. it's about 1/2 the price and does everything this does. I am going to buy one of those instead of a 2nd one of these. No issues with this one at all. feel safe buying it.GEORGE B : This flash tilts up and down and rotates back and forthJOHNNY S : This Flash will Tilt up after rotating it, either Left or Right. every time you rotate the flash into left or right direction, you need to push the button located at the back of the Flash that say "Push" Now when you Tilt it up, you need to push the button located at the right side of the flash to raise it up. It is really a very handy Speed light Flash, you'll enjoy it. Hoping this will help you... john...KATHRYN W : Yes it will. A great flash!!!!!DIANNE S : Yes you are able to tilt the flash up wherever you have it pointed.BERNARD G : Yes it will. If you rotate your camera counterclockwise to Portrait position it will swivel straight up. If you rotate your camera clockwise, it will rotate beyond straight up. This flash gives you full 360 deg. rotationGIRIJA S : Yes, it rotates 110 degree. it has a stop at 0 degree, 45 degree, 90 degree ( up) , and 110 degree angleTERRY C : Yes it will.Dario L : Yes, it can do that, i hace one and i've had no problems wih that.
CONNIE M : I am looking for a second flash to add to my systems. I currently have a Nikon D5000 and A D7100 and I also have the Nikon SB910 speedlight. Is this a good second flash to have??? Want one as close to the 910 as possible but also do not want to break the bank. If not this one can you recommend another.?? ThanksRAY T : Very goodCHARLIE S : I had no luck with this flash as a remote. I followed the instructions but could not get it to flash in sync and had trouble adjusting the power setting. I gave up on it and bought Nikon b700s. I have 3 and love them. I use a D7100 and d800.BRENDA R : I own a Nikon D5100 the sigma. I cannot get it to work remote, but attached it works.DIANNE S : I've been using this flash regularly for event photography as well as casual portraits stage production images and fill for nature photos. I am very happy with it over all. I use one of Adorama's little over-the-flash soft boxes to help diffuse the light and that works quite well. At first I had some trouble with it not firing for every shot. A real problem in event work ;-/ , but am fairly certain it was operator error and doesn't happen very often now. For the price I would definitely recommend it.KATHRYN W : The 610 is an awesome flash. A true guide number of 200. Have used it mostly for weddings and the flash carries for up to seventy feet. Buy it. You will be amazed.ARTHUR E : I've had good performance with this flash. The manual is without a doubt absolutely terrible. If you are curious like me you will eventually figure it out. the manual will get you to the pool but you will have to jump in to figure it out. Battery conusumption is good, well built, recovery time is decent. I would buy. If you don't have to have TTL I would buy the Youngo for about 60. I have 4 and I only use manual flash settings even if TTL is available this would be the way to go.GIRIJA S : Sigma EF-610 is a good flash for Nikon. This buy wont make you repent. But one drawback, i want to highlight. after 50-60 shots at a strech, this becomes irresponsive. ( may be because , i dont know how to handle it). So what i do-> i take out the batteries and put them in again, then its good for another 50-60 shots at a strech.
Shopper : I can not get the wireless to work with Nikon D7000. What am I doing wrong?RICHARD H : You have to have your pop up flash up and operational to trigger the off camera flash. Start by putting the flash on your camera, turn both on, this will sync the camera and the flash. Then remove the flash from the camera, pop up your on camera flash, set your Sigma where you want it and shoot away. If you don't want to use the on camera pop-up flash, the only other option that I know of is a triggering device. I use the cowboy studio FM radio trigger. They aren't very expensive and work well.

Great and Bright

These guys are bright, and work like a charm. Though one battery door has already broken on one. Fell off the stand... but that wasn't the flashes fault.

Accurate P-TTL + Powerfull but with an Achilles heel.

The P-TTL works well and results are quite accurate. It has plenty of power and the price is fair but how much would it cost to manufacture this flash with a strong metal shoe? Other than lenses being made of glass, the attachment of a flash to a hot shoe is a glaring vulnerability that has not evolved. In the meantime, can't reputable brands build them as strong as possible?

Great flash

This flash is very powerful and extremely versatile. Especially for the price. If you are a hobbyist as I am this is the flash for you. If you do photography for a living, the build may not be robust enough for you.

I have seen the light...

...and it was BRIGHT! Does all the things the Pentax AF-540FGZ deos and almost all the things as the AF-540FGZ II does but slightly brighter and lower cost. To compare, it is far easier to say what it does not have: Weather resistance, modeling light, left swivel only 90° to the left (but 180° to the right). Both the AF-540FGZ & AF-540FGZ II swivel 135° to the left and the AF-540FGZ II is weather resistant and has an LED modeling/video light. If those are features you need, get the Pentax flash. I recommend you get at least one. If you want to save some money on one or two features you may not need, get the Sigma.

Good Flash

I am pleased with this flash. Easy to use. There are a lot of functions, I need to learn. However, for the purpose I neeed it for, it did the job. I would consider getting another flash of this quality.

Great value.

Prior to this purchase I had the standard EF 610 and still do. It does such a great job I decided to stay with the same when shopping for a high speed sync model. I bought this product for the high speed sync to shoot Friday night lights (high school football). It has worked flawlessly. The wireless flash capability has been great too with my Pentax K5.

Great product at a reasonable price

I've read reviews that mentioned the build quality is not as good as Nikon's but this is my second Sigma, both have excellent built quality, and both are more powerful than their OEM counterpart, at significant lower prices. Not to mention Adorama threw in some freebies and had it delivered in about three days. Very satisfied with the product and service, definitely recommend to others who are looking for a powerful flash and save some money at the same time.

Awesome flash unit!

Very powerful, strong mounting foot, excellent zoom tracking, excellent display and controls. Extra features of the Super model are something I could actually do without. So if I ever need to replace this unit, I would go for the standard version.

be careful

it is as powerful as advertised...blasts light everywhere, so you can use it on a light modifier like a Westcott Rapid Box (even with the diffusion panel on it) and get great results...takes a while to decipher the manual but it will do what it says...on the downside IT WILL NOT FIRE WITH NON TTL TRIGGERS (cowboy studio, pixel pawn)...I contacted Sigma and they confirmed the compatibility issues but "claim" it will work on Pocket Wizzards...the recycle time is slower than I would have liked and it will burn through your batteries because of the output...if you are going to use it on a ttl cord or on camera, then I'd say it's worth the money...otherwise, proceed with caution

Good Fit

I always wanted a shoe mount flash to take more pleasing flash photos. I have several Sigma lenses for my Pentax cameras and they suit my needs. I was not disappointed with the Sigma flash. It does everything I want it to do. I am still experimenting with the flash unit, especially the off-shoe remote options.

As good as a 500 dollar Speed-lite.

I usually use studio strobes. I really only use an on camera flash when I shoot events. I use this on an Alzo tilt bracket with an umbrella on a mono pod (the entire rig with a 5Dmk 2 is heavy). I need great output and fast recovery. This works.

Amazing!

This flash is amazing! I think it's the best purchase I have ever made... It is a very powefull flash, durable, nice zoom range, nice optical slave, it can be used as a master flash, it has a stroboscopic function... so you can be pretty creative with this flash! Super cheap and very very goood!

Outstanding

I have used the Sigma EF-610 DG Super flash with Canon and Sony systems. It works seamlessly as a part of a Canon remote flash system. I have never tried this with Sony Alpha, but the flash does work as weel as or better than a Sony A56 in every applications I have tried.

VERY Disappointed

Bought this because the Nikon Sb-900 is over-priced. The flash is powerful and seems to work well in TTL on-camera. But Off-Camera doesn't seem to work regardless of what settings I pick. The Menu sucks and is impossible to figure out - partially because the manual is written so poorly. I very likely will return this and pay the extra for the SB-900 to have something that easily works as a slave off-camera. VERY Disappointing Product !

A good value flash

This stobe workes very well and does the job it was intended for. It was a very good value because it was much cheaper than the top Canon model with the same power output. I liked the solid metal hot shoe because I have had strobes in the past with plastic shoes that have broken. A very good value

If you need light this has you covered

I use this flash for indoor low light photography. It is easy to use although I recommend reading the manual if you are new to using flash systems. I have not come across anything I don't like. I feel it is a great alternative to Canon Nikon and Sony flash systems. I have used Sony camera systems and they can sometimes be expensive. I use the Sigma system now and this is another example of why Sigma is a good choice.

Great value

Easy to use, easier than my Canon Speedlights (580exII and 430exII). The build quality of my Canon Speedlights are better and the Sigma has a plastic hotshoe mount but if you take the price into account its output is closer to the 580exII than the 430eII for about half the price of the 580exII. It also slaves well with my 580exII and can be used as a master but in this regard the 580exII works better as a master.

I am really pleased with my Sigma EF-610

I recently used it at a family outing to a dance performance. Our outdoor seating was appr 100' away. With a long zoom and my flash, I was able to get sharp, well lit photos even after the sun went down. It does a great job lighting the whole room when using it as a bounce flash indoors.

Great flash!!

I use this product for all my mobile photography, interiors, real estate, portraits. I love that it has a lot of power, but the amount of settings makes it a bit complicated. You definitely need to read the manual.

A few months later... still great!

Worked flawlessly on my 450D/XSi but did not work on my Canon 7D. Good news, an update to my 7D's firmware to 1.2.3 made all the difference. All is good now!!!I suppose the wireless would have been great like the 580 EX II with the 7D but for [$] versus $450, I can't complain!

The EF-610 DG SUPER features a powerful Guide Number of 200ft / 61m and is designed to work with the latest TTL auto exposure systems of all popular digital and film SLR cameras.

The autozoom function automatically sets the optimum illumination angle in accordance with the lens' focal length in a range from 24mm to 105mm. When the built-in Wide Panel is used, the flash can cover an angle of 17mm.

For bounce flash, the flashgun head can be tilted up by 90 degrees, to the left by 180 degrees, or to the right by 90 degrees. It can also be tilted down by 7 degrees allowing ease of use for close-up photography.

Among the advanced features of this flash is a modeling flash function, multi-pulse flash, TTL wireless flash, FP (high speed) flash, rear-curtain Synchro flash and manual flash mode, which allows the photographer to set the flash power level by up to eight stops.

The Auto Power-Off function automatically shuts off the LCD panel to help save battery power. When the flashgun is fully charged, a confirmation 'ready' light will be emitted.
