Good flash, but a bit much for the money.

Good flash for the money, but there are many new units out there with more features at the same price point. Look at Godox of Flashpoint instead.

Didn't work on Canon T7i body

Purchased the Sigma EF-610 DG ST flash for Canon to use with my Canon T7i body. The first day, the flash seemed to work ok - I only took a couple quick pictures with it. Then a couple days later when I wanted to take a picture, I couldn't get it to work hardly at all. It was like the camera was not sensing that the flash was even present on the hot shoe. In fully automatic mode, it would pick a shutter speed of 2 seconds instead of firing the flash. I sent it back and purchased the Canon Speedlite 430EX III-RT flash instead. It is worth the extra money!

Worked at first.

At first it worked and seemed to be reliable. After about 6 months of very limited use exposures were off. Some where over exposed and some were under exposed. Then the flash would fail to fire on occasion. Then fail to fire more and more often. I tried many sets of batteries, was very careful in seating the flash etc. The flash is just unreliable. I bought a used Metz 58 and haven't had a problem since. Then I picked up a Metz 54 and started experimenting with off camera flash. Both Metz have always worked perfectly... on the same camera that this Sigma will not work with reliably. I have some really cheap lousy Sigma lenses... and some increadible Sigma lenses that I just love (8-16mm! my favorite lens). Sigma should stick to lenses because there are MUCH better choices for flashes. I love me Metz flashes but would look very seriously at the Godox/Flashpoint flashes if I were buing another flash.

Flash works very well. The instructions print is too small. I looked for instructions you could print out, but couldn't find them.

Very slow

As I shoot weddings, I need a flash that can recharge quickly in order to capture all of the special moments of an indoor or nighttime reception. This flash takes much longer than my last to recharge and fire. Also, it becomes loose very easily. I think I'll stick to the brand that I used before this one.

Great Flash!!!

This flash kicks out seriously strong light! I bought it for use with my sigma DP3 Merrill, which has notorious low lighting/indoor weakness. Now with the external flash, all problems are resolved! Works great! Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed. Luis B.

So Far, So Good

I haven't had a chance to use it to a great extent, however, I bought it along with a Better Beamer to try to capture Hummingbirds and Butterflies on the move. It is doing the job, if only I could get more co-operation from the critters.

Great for the price!

I am hard on flash units. Use them in crowds on remote and they get hard use. At he price it doesn't shake me up when they are damaged.

Didn't work consistently with Sony A37

When the flash worked, it worked great but it would randomly stop being recognized as being on the camera and would not work. I sent 2 of them back.

Nice, inexpensive flash, but....

...but you get what you pay for. As a straight on-camera flash, this unit does a very good job. The problem I am having is as soon as I swivel or tilt the head into bounce mode, the D3100 no longer meters properly and I am forced to go into manual and bracket into the proper exposure. Inconvenience for staged shots, not useful for active shots. I have replaced it with an SB800, which properly meters bounce conditions, and will be using the EF-610 only as an off-camera fill flash.

Dependable Flash

I wanted to get a new flash for my Pentax K-30. I own two Pentax Flashes, but I have never been 100% happy with their flashes. The Sigma EF-610. DG ST is a basic flash. There is no LCD on the back of the flash. It is very simple to use. Attach it to you hotshoe, set your camera to program or auto, and you are all set to go. The bottom line is the images. This flash does the job as advertised. If you want the other Sigma flash with the LCD, you can get it, but it will cost a lot more. I have no issues or concerns about my flash. I did speak to Sigma on the phone and they told me that alkaline batteries last longer than lithium batteries. For a simple flash that works great, I would recommend this flash. Just remember, every SLR camera that has a pop -up flash isn't designed for everything. You will need a shoemount flash to increase the proformance of your camera.

Powerful but simple to use

I use the Sigma EF regularly as a newspaper reporter. It works well in all kinds of lighting conditions. It recycles fast even when I need a lot of light in a big auditorium. I don't find anything wrong about it. It is perfect for me as a reporter.

Good features, for less

This is the first shoe mount flash to pair with my first SLR. So far I am impressed by the features of the flash using iTTL controls. Bounce flash is capable for anywhere with the amount of tilt and swivel. So far I have been able to use the flash on about 150 pictures on one set of AA batteries. I have not had any problem with cycle times.

Excellent Companion to T3i, Canon DSLRs

When I upgraded my DSLR to a new T3i, I was shocked my older Sigma E-500 wouldn't work with it. After 6 happy years with that flash, I decided to go with its modern cousin that works with the newer cameras. It has been reliable and accurate so far, handling the TTL handshaking with camera with no effort on my part. I use it as my primary flash, from close work (with the built-in diffuser) to bounce flash for family and pets.

Not a Reliable Flash

Can't recall where I order this unit from but it came with a set of batteries that after one week were leaking so not 100% sure my problems are not related but I have cleaned all batt connections. This flash cycles real slow and for me will not work with anything other than Alkaline batteries with 1.5V, using NiMh 1.2V the unit will not power on at all. The battery door is weak and has came loose on my the day I got the flash. So changing batteries during a shoot is not easily done. Only have 2 manual power settings and no external port to connect to a external remote flash controller so requires ordering a new cable. For me I no longer keep this flash in my bag and will soon relegate it to the recycle bin.

Powerful Flash

I have other flash units that work (after a fashion)but every time you want to use bounce flash or some sort of light modifying device the result is usually gross underexposure. The Sigma EF-610 has the power to do the job.

Very Good Flash

Very powerful flash for the money! It doesn't have all the controls of higher end flash guns, but does a very nice job of handling the toughest lighting conditons.

So Far, So Good

I bought two flashes and I've yet to use them at their full potential. But for the price and the power they put out I am pleased with them so far. Now I have to get a transmitter so I can trigger them remotely.

Used this flash to photograph a wedding, worked great!

The EF-610 DG ST features a powerful Guide Number of 200ft / 61m and is designed to work with the latest TTL auto exposure systems of all popular digital and film SLR cameras.

It features TTL automatic flash exposure control for easy operation. The autozoom function automatically sets the optimum illumination angle in accordance with the lens' focal length in a range from 24mm to 105mm. When the built-in Wide Panel is used, the flash can cover the angle of 17mm.

For bounce flash, the flashgun head can be tilted up by 90 degrees, to the left by 180 degrees, or to the right by 90 degrees. It can also be tilted down by 7 degrees allowing ease of use for close-up photography. In addition to automatic mode, the flashgun also features a manual flash mode, making it possible to set the flash power to full or 1/16. When the flashgun is fully charged, a confirmation 'ready' light will be emitted and the flash exposure level can be checked through the camera's viewfinder.

Other features incorporated into this flashgun include the Auto Power-Off function to help save battery power.
