I prefer Sigma over Nikon lenses in most cases. The mechanical and optical quality are superb. Yes, it is a big and heavy sucker.

Awesome lens! Great for all types of shooting. I use it as a Portrait & Wedding lens. Super sharp, but heavy as all get out!! It's all I can do to hold it up & use it for a whole Wedding shoot, and then I am sore as crap the next day. Quick family shoots, etc not so bad though. I may have to get something lighter for weddings.

I was quite pleased with this lens, until I discovered that I can't use it with my Lee filter system. There are no front threads on the outside of the lens! There are front threads on the inside of the lens so I can attach a circular polarizer or a UV filter... but none on the outside of the barrel to attach the Lee filter system. It will press fit onto the front of the lens but I'm not comfortable risking hundreds of dollars worth of Lee filters that could be knocked off by one accidental bump.

Absolutely Love this! The Compression is insane, a whole lot better than most! I would say it is better than the canon brand, the focus buttons are perfect

Solid performer. We had the canon 70-200 ii and it was our go-to for years. For certain stills camera bodies, the Canon lens probably performs better with AF and may have some better color rendering. However we shoot on canon cinema cameras for micro-doc shoots. We switched over to the sigma to match the look of our art lenses (even though this is technically a S-sport lens). Everything match very nicely with the 18-35 Art lens and autofocus is quick and accurate on the c200. No complaints. Pleasantly suprised.

This is a premium lens. It is sharp and has great compression. Photo quality is really good. It is on the heavy side but we happen to appreciate this. Build quality is rugged...Overall quality purchase

Excellent lens for far less than the Canon version. My first time using it I was at an ancient stone bridge over a creek at dusk when a young woman came down to the creekside to drop a memorial into the water in memory of a lost child. I told her I'd take a photo for her but was concerned about the darkness and holding such a heavy lens steady during a slow shutter speed. I was surprised at how well the stabilization system worked. It's a little odd, you hold the shutter for about a second and suddenly you can see the subject lock in the viewfinder.

Bought my sigma 70-200 f2.8 sport lens about a year ago. It has been an excellent lens with my canon 70D. It operates like canon lens but at a huge savings, about half the price at the time. Have been very pleased with the photos so far. One minor drawback is that it is a little heavy to handle for long period of time. But using a black rapid strap has helped with the weight considerably. Would recommend this lens to anyone.

Great addition to the arsenal. Mainly using it for video, I can say the performance of the autofocus is fantastic. Build quality is top-notch, especially against the competitor counterparts. It is pretty beefy, so handheld work will give you a workout.

Sturdy lens and takes great pictures. However when focusing it will go out and take a second to re focus and seems to bounce the location of the image.

I'm amazed at this lens. I was originally interested in the Canon version but I couldn't justify the $700 difference, especially once I read the reviews. Admittedly when I first experienced it's weight, I assumed it would spend most of it's life in my camera bag, coming out for those critical close ups of the bride at the alter. But I just completed my first shoot with it and while concentrating on the project, I didn't think about the weight. So it was a non issue. Now I've used image stabilization for years but I haven't seen anything quite like this. While holding the shutter for a second suddenly the subject freezes in your viewfinder. I photographed a floating memorial at the full 200 mm, handheld at 1/20 of a second and got a razor sharp image. See the image below.

Love this lens. It's the best sigma that I own. Fast but it's heavy. I'll take that for its performance. No regrets buying this over the more expensive options. Love the focus button on the barrel which i use to switch quickly between ai servo and one shot. Dock is a must as you can microadjust focus at many ranges.

Great lens for what you get. The only downside is the size/weight, but if you can handle that, it's perfect!

Very Impressed with Build Quality
By Christopher C.
Rented both the Canon 70-200 IS II and III to photograph some hockey games. Decided that I needed to purchase a 70-200 lens and saw that Sigma had just released their long awaited update to their first generation 70-200 (almost 10 years old!). Saw a couple reviews and decided to pull the trigger and purchase it. I could not be more impressed - the build quality is superb and really feels even more well built than the Canon. The zoom ring was very tight upon first use, but has loosened up the ...

RockStar Beast!

This lens just rocks. Paired with my Nikon D850 I get pin sharp images even at f/2.8. I couldn't justify the $1k+ price difference compared to the OEM because the Sigma is just that Great! The focus is fast, the bokeh is beautiful, the images are sharp and this lens is built solidly. The only draw back is the nearly 4 pounds of a stellar lens however it is manageable.
The ever-evolving 70 200mm is now available in the Sports line The F2.8 zoom lenses are the essential equipment for many professional photographers. 70-200mm F2.8 lenses in particular are expected to perform at their best in various challenging scenes, from news to sports, landscape, and portraits. The SIGMA 70-200mm F2.8 DG OS HSM Sports has high optical quality, a tough design and excellent handling - all of the features required by professional photographers and high-end amateurs. The all-round, ultimate 70-200mm F2.8 is now available.
Combining all of the features required by professional photographers
To make the lens lightweight while maintaining robustness, magnesium is used to ensure high mobility. As a lens from the Sports line, the dust- and splash-proof structure, together with the water- and oil-repellent coating on the front lens, ensures safe use even in the most challenging shooting conditions. The SIGMA 70-200mm F2.8 DG OS HSM Sports also incorporates Intelligent OS1 with an acceleration sensor and the latest algorithm capable of panning in all directions. The high-speed AF, thanks to the HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) with an updated algorithm, captures instantaneous photography movement
Incorporating 10 exclusive low-dispersion glass elements
To provide excellent correction of color aberration, nine FLD ("F" Low Dispersion) glass elements and an SLD (Special Low Dispersio n) glass element, in total ten exclusive low-dispersion glass elements are incorporated. From the center to the corners, extremely high resolution is realized, making the lens capable of meeting the most demanding needs of professional photographers in various s hooting conditions. By optimizing spherical aberration, a smooth and natural bokeh effect is ensured making the lens perfect for po rtrait photography.
Customization is possible to improve versatility
An AF Function button is provided to allocate various functions. By selecting it from the menu on camera bodies, or using the optional SIGMA USB DOCK, functions other than AF Lock can be allocated too. It expands shooting styles, depending on the user's preference. In addition, the tripod socket with 90 Degree click stops, made with a magnesium alloy which is both lightweight and tough, is incorporated to ensure easier changes of shooting position from vertical to horizontal and vice versa. It can be attached directly to an Arca Swiss type clamp.
