Since this unit works with infrared light, it needs to be within the "line of sight" of the cameras remote sensor. For better or worse this sensor is located in the front of the camera. This makes the remote good for taking group photos (including the photographer in the shot), but imposible when standing in back, or on one side of, the camera. Nonethless, the remote is well built and I expect it will function (for what it is designed to do) for many years.

Sigma RS-31 Remote Controller allows the photographer to take self-portraits or get into group shots. Used in conjunction with the Mirror Lock-Up function, it can reduce the possibility of image-blurring camera shake, making it particularly useful for macro or telephoto shooting.
