It's a 57! What more can I say?
We had an SM57 on the snare drum, the drummer got excited and leaned a little too far forward and hit the capsule on the mic directly. That was the end of that mic. UNTIL... we bought this R57. Removed the damaged head, installed this one, and BAM! Back in business. And guess what? It sounds like a 57!

Great replacement.

Contrary to popular belief, SM57s aren't indestructible, as the capsule material is glued to the magnet and can detach (especially if you spin the housing, which it seems to be designed to do, but can detach that capsule). Once detached, the wiring will snap leaving you a very difficult repair, or the need for this product, a replacement capsule. Simple soldering skills will hook this into an existing 57 no problem. You can also make a transformerless 57 with this easily as long as you have a spare handle. Saves some money vs a whole new one.
