exceptional in every way
Super sharp, wide angle of view, extremely bright. 8.5x magnification is optimal for all-round birding in my opinion (10's are too narrow angle and hard to hold steady on boat or for older less steady users). The weakest point of the binoculars themselves is that there is a lot of turning of the focus wheel to do to go from infinity to close focus, so it helps to prefocus to an appropriate distance for the habitat you are in. The eyecup (rainguard) forms a nice tight seal over the eye pieces....

Very easy to adjust for different sized faces. Very easy to set diopter, to adjust for different eye sight
The Swarovski Optik 8.5 x 42 EL SwaroVision Water Proof Roof Prism Binocular combines maximum functionality, innovation and design. The unique wrap-around grip enables comfortable operation even with one hand. Low weight and excellent balance make light work of long observation periods. The sophisticated top-class optical system delivers high-contrast, lifelike image quality.
The EL's open-bridge design provides viewers with long-term viewing comfort, enhanced stability and ease of handling. The housing is covered with a rubberized finish that offers a secure tactile grip and a bit of shock resistance. Stellar all-climate performance is ensured via nitrogen purging. The rugged magnesium housing is sealed and purged to create a watertight and fogproof internal system - one that's impervious to dynamic climates and difficult conditions.
The focusing system has been upgraded as well - this optic focuses down to 4.9' and the viewer can go from infinity to minimum focus with two full rotations of the center-focus dial. A wide angle field of view and truly noteworthy eye relief contribute to this fine sporting optic's viewing performance. Even when wearing glasses, the view remains unobstructed, free from vignetting and lush with crisp detail.
