jabc r : whats the diameter of the male piece and the threading?RICHARD B : the 3 lb counterweight is made to slide anywhere along the 10 stainless steel rod which is 7/16 in diameter. The threaded end of the rod mates nicely to the telescope or multi-camera mounting plate.. the rod male end is 3/8 long - and appears to be aa standard 1/4 inch size with 6 threads. I have not used this attachment yet for a telescope or multiple camera setup - but aI bought it in advance of that time. It is very well made as is the entire skywatcher unit. The only thing I don't like is the cheap plastic cap that fits over the eyepiece to protect it. One of the plastic tabs broke off of mine on first use - but that is no big deal. I can protect the eyepiece with a simple cover of my own design and a rubber band. I strongly suggest the free ap polar align app for your cell phone which gives you the settings to aid in setup at your intended site of usage. Photopills is also invaluable for planning exactly where you want the stars in your photos. There is useful info on the skywatcher site for time lape photos and movies which I also haven't tried yet. Have to study that one and try it a few times to get precise - but it looks to be of great fun. In all - I would rate this item 5 stars for excellence in design and well built construction - and I am still learning from it - used in Bahamas for some low iso star pics of up to 10 minutes, and also on trip to Utah dark skies. Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer Astro Package Counter Weight

This is designed for the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer Astro Package and works as its supposed to to. It takes a few minutes to balance the unit with a camera installed but it does balance nicely and keeps the unit steady during operation.

Definite help

If you balancing a heavy camera and lens on your tripod - help make your movements a bit easier with this counterweight, It is even more critical to use it with a 2 camera mount, or if adding other items.

The stars are in the balance

I purchased the counterweight recently to allow me to use larger lenses with my Sky Watcher star tracker. I recently traveled to Australia, where I used this out in the desert to photography the Milky Way and the Large and Small Megallanic Clouds. If you’re interested in shooting the stars and you have a Sky Watcher star tracker, this is a must-have.

I bought the Sky Watcher Adventurer tracker and decided to add the counter weight kit. Glad I did. Takes stress off the tracking motor by balancing the weight.You also need the bracket that this screws into.
